BEAUTIFUL DISASTER BY JAMIE MCGUIRE

Synopsis
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn't drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs--and wants--to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby's resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis' apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Summary:
By entering university, Abby wants to forget her past and start again on new bases with her best friend, America. One evening when she went to a boxing fight underground, she crosses paths with Travis. The playboy bad boy will mess up her life, bring her to expand her boundaries and capture her heart. But are the two young characters ready to face their demons together ?

Reactions:
Incredible!
This novel blew me away. I do not expect to fall into a story so intense, so passionate and so confrontational. If you looking for a peaceful love story, pass your way. But I'm sure of myself when I say that if you decided to start this book you will not be disappointed!

The author has blended different atmospheres and universe. A friendly, studious and festive one created by the scenary of this story: a university with a campus, dormitories, classrooms and student parties.
Then the atmosphere changes when the reader enters the electric mood of
"Fight Club" with combat scenes full of blood, rivers of beer and violence that enhanced the piquancy of the forbidden that emerges from these fights banned. Amazingly captured by the author!

To spice up a little the extra madness and frenzy of the novel, the reader is propelled in the heart of the city of vice: Las Vegas for new games and battles where the characters flirt with the local underworld. Once the whirlwind of the game and the easy money has abated, total turnaround. The reader sits at table quietly for a traditional family meal for Thanksgiving.

As the reader goes through the various settings offered by the author, the reader also becomes the spectator of a fusional, passional love that sometimes is a little dangerous. A couple crazy in love with extreme feelings similar to those of Sean Penn and Robin Wright in "She's so Lovely".

At any time, we feel that the downward spiral can occur as the characters and their feelings are extreme. A bit as if Travis and Abby are attracted like magnets to one others but also made out the worst in the other.
An explosive cocktail!

I confess I am not a fan of jealous, possessive men with volatile temperament but Travis is a real treat. It leaves no one indifferent. Although he appears to be a bad boy, he is also a young man full of insecurities that seeks to push the other to test the strength of his love. He makes the one he loves cry a lot only to realize his feelings are true and real. A true j... but so fragile and so touching that he becomes irresistible.
Abby, on the other hand, seemed to me more confused. She has a troubled past but not so murky. She has a gift but she forbidden herself to use it. She wants to change Travis but without wanting to make some concessions.
Undecided, wind, jealous, funny, touching, she represents perfectly the complexity of a woman in love.

This novel intrigued me, amused me, annoyed me, touched me and sometimes confused me a lot... Incredible characters that move you, that it's hard not to fall in love. We fight with them, we cry, we laugh...
A wonderful well written emotional adventures. Jamie McGuire took me to a spellbinding journey with a frenzy of conflicting emotions.

I loved this book because it made me react.
A beautiful discovery that I recommend!

From Travis: « And to the absolute fucking horror of losing your best friend because you were stupid enough to fall in love with her. »

BEAUTIFUL DISASTER
BY JAMIE MCGUIRE

.

BARE-NAKED LOLA BY MELISSA BOURBON RAMIREZ

LOLA CRUZ MYSTERY
BOOK 3

Synopsis
Going undercover is second nature for Private Investigator Lola Cruz, but she’s out of her league when the case of a murdered Royals Courtside Dancer leads her to a local nudist resort.
Parading around the sidelines of Sacramento’s professional basketball scene in a barely-there cheerleading outfit is one thing—but parading around in nothing but smile?
If she has any chance of hiding this from her traditional family and on-again/off-again boyfriend Jack, she’s going to have a lot more than her duct tape bra and killer dance moves to keep under wraps….

Summary:
Lola, a young private detective, must don the costume of a professional cheerleader for the Sacramento's basketball teamand solve a murder case.

As if her case was not difficult enough, she also has to manage her crazy overprotective family and the ex-girlfriend of her boyfriend who has difficulty understanding that their relationship is over. Will Lola live up to these new adventure?
Reactions:
Fun and relaxing, this novel is perfect to unwind after a hectic day at work! Also perfect as an accompaniment to relax in the bath with a glass of wine. A dose of good humor entertaining and easy to read.
Before receiving this novel, I did not know Lola Cruz: the funny Hispanic investigator with a strong character. I did not know either that the author had already presented her and her entourage in two previous volumes.
It could have been a handicap to take the train and directly jump into the third station but I was never left on the sidewalk.

Melissa Bourbon Ramirez has closed my gaps about Lola's past with great ability and detailed reminders. So, if like me, you have not read the first two volumes, you can still spend a great time trying to find clues that will lead you to the murderer.

Beyond the humor of the heroine, her family described as a Sicilian clan and her hot boyfriend who drags his ex like a millstone around his neck, Lola is a private detective who must still prove herself. Suddenly, the reader is plunged, for the good of the investigation, in the secrets of a professional cheerleaders team in the NBA. Great scenery, don't you think ? Beacuse who has never dreamed to know the juicy details taking place in the locker room?

But I confess that when my reading took me into a nudist camp, I found the plot a little too far fetched. Fun: yes. Dared: certainly. But if you look through a scary thriller that keeps you awake all night, you can pass your way...
There I found an atmosphere similar to the one of "Miss Congeniality" with Sandra Bullock, ie a gay and charming entertainment.

As a conclusion, after meeting Lola Cruz, the author made me want to read the first two volumes to treat myself to her fun and punchy spirit.

Sentences

From Lola: "I had a urge to collect my stuff and escape to the library where I could read my favorite novel and be in my own world."

From Lola: " How far was I willing to go for my job?"

BARE-NAKED LOLA
BY MELISSA BOURBON RAMIREZ

A LOLA CRUZ MYSTERY BOOK 3

Plaisant!

HOWL BY ANNALISE GREY

Synopsis
Nineteen year old Sophie Matthews is a line-walker between two worlds - human and werewolf. She lives around humans but is never truly part of their world. That is, until she is spotted by a hiker.
What should have been a passing glance becomes so much more as Sophie falls for the one thing she is forbidden from ever having: a human mate. Adding to her stress is newcomer Daniel, the arrogant wolf on Sophie's tail.

Then several humans are killed by a mysterious and dangerous beast within the pack's hunting grounds. The humans begin whispering of wolf-men roaming the forest and the threat of discovery looms heavy around the pack.
Everything is falling apart and Sophie realizes just how little control she has over her future. Will she risk everything - her heart, her family, and her safety - for a chance to control her own fate?

Summary:
Sophie and her family live on the fringe of the others with a heavy secret to bear. When Sophie crosses paths with Jaime, she does not expect to risk everything for love.
Is she ready to reveal her true self to the man she loves?
Will she take on the deadly consequences of her choices?

Reactions:
While reading, I had flashes of the Matthews family as close to the Ingalls family in the series "Little House on the Prairie." A tribe with a powerful patriarch, although in this novel it's rather an older brother who plays the alpha male. A family with deep connections, sometimes a little out as refractory to the use of technologies, but very respectful of the rules and dynamics of the clan.
A little retro or Amish in a way of living rather refreshing. For once, we see a novel wherer family ties are important and where you take the time to do constructive things rather than to zone watching television.

So, no rebels disrespectful teenagers who do their own things but young people used to working for the good of the family and who are not part of the generation of compulsive consumers. Sophie is the only one who dares to defy the rules and taboos but for a noble cause: love …
The downside of this unusual and supernatural life being the lack of freedom and the reducing roles to which women are subject into the family. They are confined to keeping the house and procreation. I struggled not to react negatively to the vision of the woman who was proposed by this fiction. Fortunately the story takes a 180 degree turn in the final pages.
As for the supernatural part of the tale, it is portrayed in a pleasant and original way. Nothing to do with the werewolves of "Twilight," or those of « Wolves of Mercy Falls » series by Maggie Stiefvater.
The author has found her own place with a story with the right amount of twists.

If the start is a lovely enough with a special attention given to the relationship between Sophie and Jamie, the end becomes much more nuanced. The reader witnesses the awakening of the animal that sleeps within the characters with scenes more dramatic. I admit I preferred the story from the arrival of Daniel and then when the secrets come to light.

The universe described has carried me in a pleasant world during my reading, I was part of the clan so I'd say this story made me have a good time ... I would read the next opus when it will be released...

Sentences

From Sophie: « My future, my choice. No matter what. »

From Jaime: « I'll still make out with you. Even though you feast on Bambi. »

HOWL BY ANNALISE GREY

Synopsis:

CAN'T BUY ME LOVE BY MAGGIE MARR

Synopsis
Everyone knows that Cole Jackson is lethal--in his charm and in his reputation as ruthless media mogul and one of the world's great CEOs. A fact his former executive assistant Meg Parson has learned firsthand. He's the one who banished her from his executive suite with no explanation.
Determined to secure her long awaited promotion within Comnet, Meg Parson is back and can deliver the one deal Cole Jackson has always wanted and could never get. This deal is Meg's ticket to the top.

Now Meg must juggle this high-stakes deal with her unfathomable attraction to her former boss--an attraction Meg has denied for three years. An attraction which raises painful memories from her past. An attraction that Meg's boss Cole seems to share. If Meg can't pull off this multi-media merger, not only is her career at stake but also her heart.

Summary:
Cole Jackson is a demanding boss who is desperate to close a deal. Meg Parson is his faithful assistant appointed to conclude this important issue. But to get her promotion as expected, Meg is going to have to fly halfway around the world, alongside her attractive boss, and put her heart upside down. Will she be able to meet the challenges ahead?

Reactions:
"Can not Buy Me Love" is the first novel that was given me to read through Netgalley. Entertaining, easy to read, it's the perfect kind of novel to take on the beach or to slip into your bag while traveling.
The scenario is easy to decipher and there is no real surprise in it but it's a nice romantic story that takes up the theme of romance in the workplace between an assistant and her boss.

Of course, in a snap the reader goes from the city's greyness to a wonderful paradise full of golden sand and coconut to provide a seductive framework more conducive to romance ... Of course, Meg is a beautiful and capable assistant. Of course, Cole is an arrogant, tyrannical boss with a body of Apollo.

Immediately, the reader knows that it's a fiction build to make you dream along with the scenery, the easy to anticipate situations and an irresistible attraction between the main characters. And it works! We forget the unlikely details to indulge in a sweet dream …
Yet I have found that for a pretentious man, accustomed disposable conquest, Cole had sunk into eternal fidelity and love a little too fast for my taste.
Just as I found Meg's amazing capacity to forgive the boorishness of her boss a little bit too easy. But you are in a fiction so enjoy it without thinking.
Special mention to the couple formed by Stan and Allison.

Pleasant to read. Perfect for a someone who wants to make romantic sweet dreams...

Sentences:

From Alejandro: « Like most men in love, whatever the woman wants, well, the man will do. »

From Alejandro: « The women that men love most-well those are also the women that drive them loco. »

From Stan: « Business will disappoint you a million different ways, but that woman, the one you decide to love, we she'll pick you up off the floor after the bastards knock you around. »

From Stan: « Everyone makes mistakes », Stan said. « But it's how we rectify them that is the measure of a man. »

CAN'T BUY ME LOVE BY MAGGIE MARR

Impressions:
