JAPANESE WOMEN DON'T GET OLD OR FAT BY WILLIAM DOYLE AND NAOMI MORIYAMA

Synopsis
What if there were a land where people lived longer than anywhere else on earth, the obesity rate was the lowest in the developed world, and women in their forties still looked like they were in their twenties? Wouldn't you want to know their extraordinary secret?

Japanese-born Naomi Moriyama reveals the secret to her own high-energy, successful lifestyle–and the key to the enduring health and beauty of Japanese women–in this exciting new book. The Japanese have the pleasure of eating one of the most delicious, nutritious, and naturally satisfying cuisines in the world without denial, without guilt…and, yes, without getting fat or looking old.

As a young girl living in Tokyo, Naomi Moriyama grew up in the food utopia of the world, where fresh, simple, wholesome fare is prized as one of the greatest joys of life. She also spent much time basking in that other great center of Japanese food culture: her mother Chizuko's Tokyo kitchen. Now she brings the traditional secrets of her mother's kitchen to you in a book that embodies the perfect marriage of nature and culinary wisdom–Japanese home-style cooking.

If you think you've eaten Japanese food, you haven't tasted anything yet. Japanese home-style cooking isn't just about sushi and raw fish but good, old-fashioned everyday-Japanese-mom's cooking that's stood the test of time–and waistlines–for decades. Reflected in this unique way of cooking are the age-old traditional values of family and the abiding Japanese love of simplicity, nature, and good health. It's the kind of food that millions of Japanese women like Naomi eat every day to stay healthy, slim, and youthful while pursuing an energetic, successful, on-the-go lifestyle. Even better, it's fast, it's easy, and you can start with something as simple as introducing brown rice to your diet. You'll begin feeling the benefits that keep Japanese women among the youngest-looking in the world after your very next meal!

If you're tired of counting calories, counting carbs, and counting on being disappointed with diets that don't work and don't satisfy, it's time to discover one of the best-kept and most delicious secrets for a healthier, slimmer, and long-living lifestyle. It's time to discover the Japanese fountain of youth….

Reactions:
While I was browsing at the library, I came across this book with its funny name and topic. Accustomed to Asian cuisine and quite a fan of Japanese food, I've been tempted by the cover. After all there is no harm to learn some secrets …

It's true that Asians are often very thin and it is difficult to often guess their age. So, I immersed myself in the story of Naomi Moritama with a great curiosity. The young woman shares her story with nostalgic details of her youth in Japan and then, to her hectic life in the United States with her husband. I laughed from the cultural differences and poor eating habits that you can quickly acquire even after years of good ones, but it also made me think.

It is true that lack of time can cause us to eat anything, especially dishes already ready to heat. Except that the authors explain that cooking some fresh dish can be quick, tasty and healthy. I've tried it and once again it's a question of habits. So after the story the authors propose some recipes that are very easy to master.

I confess that if I have not tried everything, it allowed me to learn more about Japanese food. Now I make a delicious miso soup, my way of cooking rice has changed and daikon is often invited to my table. Green tea accompanies my daily drinking routine and I do not speak of my wonderful delicately sweet omelettes...

JAPANESE WOMEN DON'T GET OLD OR FAT  BY WILLIAM DOYLE AND NAOMI MORIYAMA

A TOUCH OF GREEK BY TINA FOLSOM

OUT OF OLYMPUS
BOOK 1

Synopsis
Selfish and gorgeous Greek God Triton is cast out of Olympus after seducing Zeus' mistress and can only gain reentry if he finds a woman who loves him for his kindness and selflessness, not his beauty. When the mortal Sophia - recovering from an eye operation and virtually blind - needs a home healthcare worker, he takes on the role, hoping she will be his ticket home.

While defending Sophia from an unknown adversary, Triton's protective instinct emerges. At the same time rival Gods do everything to doom him to failure. And even if Triton can win Sophia's love, will he throw it away to return home, or will he lose his own heart to the only woman who truly sees him?

A Touch of Greek is the first book in the humorous paranormal romance series Out of Olympus following the romantic adventures of four Gods: Triton, Dionysus, Eros, and Hermes.

Summary:
Triton has enraged Zeus once too often and he finds himself sent to Earth, as punishment, in search of a woman who will fall in love for himself instead of his beauty. The task should be relatively easy but it did not count on the ability of a stubborn mortal female to captivate the heart of a god ...

Reactions:
By glancing through "A touch of Greek," I expected to fall on a slightly different story, I must admit. I was thinking about a fantasy novel based on the mythological gods with extraordinary powers embedded in fantastic adventures. I expected some rough fighting, an honorable quest, monsters, etc. ...
None of that! Tina Folsom uses the mythological aspect to install her scenary for a rather fun, erotic and entertaining romance.

Admittedly, the idea of Triton, the son of Poseidon, sent to Earth in a small town of the United States rather intrigued me, especially after the meeting between Sophia and Poseidon on the beach. So I wanted to know a bit more...

If the plot is not really original, some of the scenes too expected and anticipated by the reader, the characters themselves are distracting. Particulary Triton. He is as annoying as he is charming. I guess his physical attributes rather flattering, from the descriptions made by Tina Folsom, did not spoil my reading ... At least in my imagination!

Certainly the language of the young god and his friends sometimes deserves to be more refined as they talk trash and swear too much but sometimes you also need to call a spade a spade!

Maybe I would have like to know more about the adaptation of an Olympian god to his life in the twenty-first century a bit more, but we do not read a romance for that...

"A touch of Greek," is pleasant enough to let you escape, have fun and ask for more.

Sentences

From Triton: « You are one sick son of a god. »

From Triton: « I guess we all sometimes do things we're not used to. And it turns out they aren't always as bad as we imagine them to be. Some surprises can be good. »

From Poseidon: « Love is all about giving and demanding nothing in return. »

From Triton: « I haven't slept, because I need your arms around me to fall asleep. »

RUSH FOR THE GOLD: MYSTERY AT THE OLYMPICS BY JOHN FEINSTEIN

Synopsis
Bestselling sportswriter and Edgar Award winner John Feinstein is back with another sports mystery featuring Stevie Thomas and Susan Carol Anderson—this one set at the summer Olympics in London.

In this book, Susan Carol isn't a reporter—she's an Olympian, competing as a swimmer at her first Olympic games. Stevie is both proud and envious of her athletic prowess. And he's worried by the agents and sponsors and media all wanting to get up close and personal with Susan Carol.
But the more disturbing question becomes—how far might they go to ensure that America's newest Olympic darling wins gold?

Sports novels abound, but Feinstein's books are all stars. They combine sports action, high-stakes mysteries, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of big-time sporting events.

Summary:
Susan Carol is under the spotlight after winning the world swimming competition as well as her ticket for the London Olympic Games. But with fame comes responsibilities, obligations and troubles. Fortunately, she can count on Stevie to help her through the difficult times. And she will need help if she wants to win Olympic gold ...

 Reactions:
From the first lines the reader is plunged into the vortex of high level competition with the media circus, the pressure of sponsors, the stress to keep good results as if the reader was in the shoes of the athlete.
This is awesome!

Of course, there is a story that develops through the flair of Stevie and Susan Carol who like to find troubles. They find a new scoop to dig into and thanks to their friends and acquaintances let you navigate through the scenes of professional sport. As for the author, he mixes real and fictional events, ditto for the characters, to keep the reader in an exciting environment.

This is perfect for sports enthusiasts who want to distract themself with a suspense novel. Just let yourself go and enjoy the various trails that the two young reporters follow. Although the journalist's cap is left majoritarily to Stevie since Susan Carol plays the stars of the basins.

Beyond the story what fascinated me is the writing of John Feinstein. He reveals sharp details on the training, the discipline and rigor of the butterfly and emotions that only a swimmer could describe as strongly. As if the reader is participating in the race to be the one who gives the final push to reach the wall and head out of water... Splendidly done !

As if one looked a competition on television instead of reading it in a book how clear and vivid the images are pictured. You feel the atmosphere, the chlorine from the pool. My heart rate was accelerating while I was frantically turning the pages to see who has won the race... I was there!
Ditto for the newsroom atmosphere or the excitement and crazyness of interviews after a big event. Even if the situations are funny or pathetic, the sport sceneries descriptions are always accurate ...

Having had the opportunity to taste this environment, I was particularly blown away by the authenticity of the decor and the way the author has captured the atmosphere. An incredible suspense translated through well-chosen words.

A beautiful novel which I discovered the fourth component and that I will hasten to read the previous volumes as I was truly amazed by this one.
A book to get an advance taste of the London Olympics.

Sentences

From Susan Carol: « Oh, they said it was okay to be proud, » she said « Just as long as I understand that in London, second isn't enough. »

From Stevie: « It's kind of sick that so much of what an athlete can earn depends not on their talent but on their looks. »

From Susan Carol: « It just makes me angry that in the year 2012, female athletes are still valued more for their looks than for their ability. »

From Stevie: « I'm just saying – we've both seen enough in the sports world to know that money is everywhere, but fairness is harder to come by. »

RUSH FOR THE GOLD:
MYSTERY AT THE OLYMPICS
BY JOHN FEINSTEIN

FIRST DATE BY KRISTA MCGEE

Synopsis
Addy Davidson is the last girl in the country who wants to be on the new reality TV show to win a date to prom with the President’s son. She’s focused on her schoolwork so she can get a scholarship to an Ivy League college, uncomfortable in the spotlight, never been on a date, and didn’t even audition for it.

But she got selected anyway.

So she does her best to get eliminated on the very first show… right before she realizes that the President’s son is possibly the most attractive guy she has ever seen in person, surprisingly nice, and seemingly unimpressed by the 99 other girls who are throwing themselves at him.

Addy’s totally out of her comfort zone—but that may be right where God can show her the most about who she is . . . and who she was meant to be.

Summary:
Addy was selected by her headmaster to represent her school in a TV reality game and win an invitation to the prom with the son of the president of the United States.

A notoriety she should have been excited about, as all other participants, only Addy is really not excited about being in the spotlight. Worse, she'd like to be eliminated. But that was before meeting, the gorgeous Jonathon ...

Reactions:
When I browse the summary, I expected a reading of the same ilk as watching "The Bachelor" on TV. That is a story dripping with clichés and romantic scenes full of sloppy declarations that make you roll yours eyes as they appear dull after being used so many times …

So why choose this book? Because like most women, I was raised with fairy tales and a little romance, even through a scripted show, can help you get your mind off your work by dreaming about the handsome prince on his white horse.

So I was surprised by the novel presented by Krista McGee. If the context is that of a reality TV game, the characters and the expression of faith in God was something I had not planned. I had never read a "Christian fiction book", so it was suprising...

Sure, there are typical reality TV scenes: horrible girls who call themselves names, some nasty plots to be the winner and some challenges worthy of the election of Miss America, but I admit I was surprised by the constant references to God in a book of this type ...

Modest and reserved in my belief, I admit I sometimes had the impression that this aspect of the novel was too present for my own taste.
However, during my reading, Addy's reflections on tolerance, compassion in her way of dealing with the others, even when they are awful towards you, led me to introspection. I am therefore pleased to have chosen this book that I recommend for teens and pre-teens ...

Not necessarily an unforgettable story but a novel that is enjoyable and lead you to question yourself.

Sentences

From Mike: « Don't get so caught up in what's happening around you tha you forget what's going on above.»

From Kara: « Fun is an attitude, not a location. »

FIRST DATE BY KRISTA MCGEE

FEARLESS MAGIC BY RACHEL HIGGINSON

THE STAR-CROSSED SERIES BOOK 3

Synopsis
Eden Matthew's world is in shambles. Her grandfather viciously murdered, her twin brother held without magic, and her best friends imprisoned, all at the hands of the one man that was supposed to love her for eternity.
She has been betrayed, and now she is being hunted by a king that wants her dead. Eden must pick up the pieces of her life and stand alone against the tyranny that threatens to destroy her world. Alone she must find a way to rebuild the Resistance, locate her missing parents, save her loved ones and take down the monarchy.

Everything is against her, including forbidden feelings of a love that she thought was buried. She has declared war and now stands on the precipice of defeat. Losing is not an option however, and Eden must find a way to overcome her emotions, fight through her pain and restore the magic to her kingdom
.

Summary:
Betrayed, hunted and lonely, Eden goes in search of her parents to rebuild the resistance and free her loved ones who have been imprisoned by the monarchy. A long quest full of adventures and painful choices awaits Eden. Will she be able to meet her new challenges?

Reactions:
Finished the innocent, fragile and indecisive heroin who followed blindly the man of her life, here comes a young woman seeking revenge and answers to her questions. And it rocks …

Eden has seen her world burst out from under her feet. To manage her sorrow for all the losses that her life has been through in the blink of an eye, she hides behind revenge, rage and anger to advance. Her eventful journey to rebuild the resistance, fighting against the monarchy and save those she loves takes her in captivating countries for exciting adventures.

A frantic pace for this third component still brilliantly portrayed by Rachel Higginson. All the ingredients, that I had touched and excited me in the first two volumes, have been able to be preserved and transposed into a darker, more violent world but equally fascinating.

Thus, if we see less of certain characters like Avalon, whose humor made me smile many times in previous adventures, the author introduces us to new endearing or frightening characters depending on the camp in which they appear. Rachel Higginson has reinvented herself while continuing to captivate the reader with her fantastic story. The action scenes are multiplied and they follow each other without leaving the reader time to catch its breath. Beautiful energy!

A novel more violent but also more mature in the sentiments expressed by the characters. Eden's blind love has been tarnished by Kiran's betrayal. The succession of painful trials transformed the girl and make her take her life in her own hands.
The reader then witness the birth of a strong but injured woman into a leader with responsibilities difficult to assume.
With Jericho at her side, friendship evolves into deeper emotions until a new incredible ending.

I still felt a lot of pleasure in reading this series that experienced no fatigue after three volumes. The author has kept my interest while continuing to entertain me and amaze me. Nicely done. Can't wait for the last album
"Endless Magic"!

Sentences

From Eden: « The raw beauty of such an organic environment reminded me that I was only a small piece to the elegant and divine puzzle that was this life. »

From Eden: « He took everything from me, everything, and then left me a shattered, and broken ghost of myself. »

From Eden: « I felt something then, something that moved at my heart like a crash cart against a heart attack victim, violent and reviving. I could trust Jericho, not just with protecting me from others, but from myself as well. »

From Eden: « One day, we will be able to leave each other for short amounts of time and it won't feel like we are saying goodbye forever. »

From Gabriel: « There are no mistakes, Eden, just different outcomes to our flawed expectations »

From Aunt Syl: « We are definitely going to need pedi's, right? You cannot go into battle with unpainted toes. »

From Eden: « You have been there for me patiently while I searched for you, even when I didn't know I was looking for you, you were there. »

FEARLESS MAGIC
BY RACHEL HIGGINSON
THE STAR-CROSSED SERIES BOOK 3

Synopsis:
