Pretty and affable, she brings a ray of sunshine to the office every day and is well liked by both friends and colleagues. Behind her cheerful exterior however, lurks a deeply troubled woman with a complicated past and a yearning to find her Mr Right.
Determined to quit smoking, Carly seeks help at a Harley Street medical practice where she meets the renowned hypnotherapist Dr Nick Craven. Charming and charismatic, Nick is all that Carly has ever wanted and she can’t control the overwhelming desire he stirs in her. She is certain she’s found her fairytale prince, but Nick Craven has secrets—shocking secrets that threaten to destroy all that Carly holds dear.

Trailer

Excerpt
"Our suite is on the second floor of the hotel. As soon as we get inside, Nick switches on the lights, and I feel a flutter of apprehension. My legs are weak and it’s a struggle to put one foot in front of the other. I can’t believe I’m about to do something I’ve dreamed of constantly since the first day we met. And yet, a part of me is petrified I’ll end up disappointing him. It’s been so long, and I’m so out of practice. What if this is all a big mistake?
Folding my arms across my chest, I step into the bedroom area of our suite. It’s breathtaking, with a king-size bed, leather-panelled walls, a plasma-screen TV and a balcony with a panoramic view of the River Thames. By the window is a large cocktail cabinet, a gas fire and an ornately carved walk-in wardrobe. To my right, a glass partition slides back to reveal a spectacular bathroom with marbled walls, a huge stone bath and a gold-plated shower.
Suddenly, I start to panic; things are moving too fast.
“I’m sorry. I don’t think I can do this.” I turn to go, but before I reach the door, Nick’s in front of me, barring my exit.
“Please don’t go,” he begs, slipping his finger under my chin so he can see my eyes. “Nothing’s going to happen if you don’t want it to. We can just sit here and talk, or watch a movie. I don’t want this night to be over. Please, stay. Is that too much to ask?” I stare up at him and for the first time, I see a desperation that almost matches my own. “Nothing’s going to happen,” he repeats. “Scout’s honour, I promise to be on my best behaviour. I just want to spend some time with you, Carly.”
My head is screaming for me to get out of there, but his eyes hold me entranced and my body is refusing to take instruction.
At last, I let out a sigh. “All right, I’ll stay.”
Bowing my head, I allow him to lead me over to the bed, and for what seems like forever, the two of us sit side by side, looking away from each other, the air thick with unspoken tension. My arms are still folded across my chest, putting up an invisible barrier between us. The screeching silence pulsates through the room like an electric current.
I start getting heart palpitations; Nick’s giving me long, lingering looks that make my body tingle. He’s probing me deep, reading my face like my features are hieroglyphics.
Suddenly, he leans forward and whispers, “You’re so beautiful. Can I touch you?”
I catch my breath then nod slowly.
Cautiously, he reaches out and tenderly caresses my cheek with the back of his hand. Then he gently strokes my hair and the dip and hollow of my ears, his fingers warm and slightly shaky. With a shock, I realise he’s just as scared as I am, and this knowledge makes me feel a little less insecure.
Slowly, his hand travels down the side of my face, then down to my neck, and lightly caresses the sculpted base of my throat. As he works his way back up, tracing the outline of my veins, I marvel at the silky softness of his fingers.
“Shall I take off your jacket?” he breathes.
I swallow hard. “Y-yes.”
With deliberate slowness, Nick eases off my coat and drops it to the floor. Then he takes off his own and I find myself becoming aroused as he fixes me with an expression so hungry, it’s like he’s got me paralysed. Desire spreads under my skin and burns me all over as he sits back down next to me. His sweet cologne is making my head spin.
“You’re trembling,” he observes.
I drop my hands into my lap. Damn. He wasn’t supposed to see that.
“Don’t be afraid …” He reaches out again and delicately touches my lips, my nose, my eyelids. I arch my back and moan softly as his strong hands slither down to my waist and pull me closer to him.
“Can I kiss you?”
I nod mutely.
Tentatively, Nick presses his lips against my cheek and breathes in my scent. Lightly, he kisses his way from the corner of my mouth to my neck and runs his hot tongue in and out of my ear hole. The heat from his breath makes me crazy and I utter a low groan of pleasure.
Goaded by my desire, he gently but firmly tilts my face toward him. His lips brush the periphery of my cupid’s bow, teasing me into a frenzy that shoots straight to my crotch. With trembling hands, he cups my cheeks and takes my mouth in his, pulling on my lower lip with his teeth. I whimper as he kisses me hard and deep, his long, agile tongue plunging down my throat with reckless abandon, igniting an inferno of longing inside me. The force of his need leaves me breathless, his soft lips eating me out like he wants to consume every piece of me. No one has ever kissed me this way before, and the depth of his passion tips me to the brink of insanity.
For what seems forever, our tongues glide together in a flurry of unrelenting lust. Finally we pause for air, and the room is quiet except for the sound of our heavy breathing. Nick stares down at me, his body shuddering in a way that indicates he’s trying mighty hard not to act on a violent impulse.
Instinctively, I raise my fingers to my lips; they feel all puckered and bruised.
“It’s been so long,” he murmurs. “So very long …” His hand snakes around my back and starts to lower the zipper of my dress. I moan as he brings his face level with mine and whispers, “I promise I won’t go too crazy.” "

VEGAN BY MARIE LAFORET

Synopsis
A chapter written by Dr. Jérôme Bernard Pellet, outlines the vegan nutritional balance: where to get protein, calcium, vitamin B12 ... what mistakes to avoid, public at risk …

- More than just a collection of recipes, the book provides informations on the key ingredients of the vegan cooking (walnuts, flax seeds, chickpeas, avocado ...) and focus on acquiring new skills: making plant cheeses, creams or vegan milks ... -

In total more than 500 recipes for every occasion, from barbecue to Eve, with a highlight on specific desserts (chocolate mousse without eggs, "cheese" cake vegan …)

Impressions
I wanted a practical book, explanatory and useful in the kitchen to help me enjoy myself while cooking varied vegetarian dishes.
I was pleased by the practical guidance on products used in vegetarian cooking as much as the explanations of the potential issues while getting rid of animal proteins from our plates.

In a cookbook, I need to see, to have the urge to start cooking to taste and understand the recipes.
Here, I enjoyed the large enticing photos that make you want to spend some time in the kitchen as well as the little ones guiding the reader.

I personally tested the pudding with coconut milk and tapioca. Yummy... A real treat!
Ditto for the brioche and the buns with orange blossom. Often, the receipes can be either too sweet or poorly proportioned, in this cookbook clear and great instructions.
I was thrilled to be able to trust the author, which you can feel the passion for cooking, and who gives you real tips .
Great delicious one!

EMILY AND THE STRANGERS BY MARIAH HUEHNER VOL 1

ILLUSTRATIONS: EMILY IVIE

Synopsis
In order to win a legendary haunted guitar, Emily is determined to create the most rockin' song the world has ever known! But can she do it solo?

Emily isn't known for playing well with others, but she's going to have to rely on the help of some strangers if she's going to succeed on her musical journey to the true heart of rock 'n' roll!

Emily the Strange creator Rob Reger teams up with co-writer Mariah Huehner (True Blood, Angel) and artist Emily Ivie (The Locked Maze, Rotsterarsil) for a brand-new, full-color Emily the Strange mini-series full of troublemaking cats, mad science, new friends, and killer guitar riffs.

Reactions
I love the character of Emily Strange and it is with great pleasure that I immersed myself in this comic.
The synopsis looked fun and promising. The cover was beautifully illustrated so, I was hoping to have a good time.

Unfortunately, I was soon disappointed by the story. Too messy! Too much confusion and bickering that show Emily as very bossy and inflexible woman.

It's a shame that the story is confusing because the moral is that we need others to succeed and that some project can not be done alone.
But the plot failed to capture my interest.

Nevertheless, the illustrations are interesting, colorful and graphically very nice to follow and appreciate.

INFINITE POTENTIAL BY BARBARA GARREN

PHASM VOL 1

Synopsis
For Kelsi Thomas, losing her husband at just twenty-three seems like the worst thing that could happen—but living her dreams is even worse. Kelsi always Knows when bad things are coming, but even she never thought she’d lose her husband at only twenty-three.

Since he died, she’s been living her worst nightmare. Her nights are filled with dreams of a Dark-Haired Man, but her days are full of guilt, because the Man fills her with longing and confusion, promising to give her all she needs, all she wants, all she feared she’d never have again. If only the dreams would stay in her head where they belong.

Kelsi starts seeing the Dark-Haired Man in her waking life, shadowing her wherever she goes. And when her mysterious new neighbor, Aiden Hardt, knows about the Man in her dreams, Kelsi worries she can’t trust her own mind.

He’s not what he seems. But even Aiden’s cryptic words don’t frighten her as much as the way she feels around him. Kelsi must sort through her emotions and figure out what’s real before she can ever hope to have a normal life again.

Reactions
I was very surprised by this novel. I did not expect at all to be overwhelmed by emotions from the very first lines. The pain and suffering associated with the loss of a loved one, the differences phases through which we pass and the perception of others while you pass through this ordeal ... Wow! Everything was right.

This echoed in me and put me ill at ease. I experienced difficulty not to cry with Kelsi ... Beautifully sad!

I also liked the paranormal touch. The author manages to keep the story plausible. One wonders if the events occur in Kelsi's head and if these visions are related to depression, grief.

Perhaps Aiden's revelations arrive a bit late ... This would be my only criticism.

The ending is sweet, touching and full of hope until the final sentence that leaves you in suspense. Very well done!

A very big emotional slap! Very well written, this novel hooked me from the start and I was unable to put this book down...

Sentences

"How could anyplace be better than our bed in the early morning, than the beach on a summer day, than sailing past Anacapa and watching the sun rise or set under its arch?"

"Except for the memories and some photographs, he was gone."

"Who did that? Who looked at you with eyes that revealed too much knowledge of your own feelings?"

*INFINITE POTENTIAL
BY BARBARA GARREN
PHASM VOL 1

WALLBANGER BY ALICE CALYTON

COCKTAIL VOL 1

Synopsis
The first night after Caroline moves into her fantastic new San Francisco apartment, she realizes she's gaining an intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy's athletic prowess, she can hear not just his bed banging against the wall but the ecstatic response of what seems (as loud night after loud night goes by) like an endless parade of women.

And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed dating hiatus, and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor.

The tension between them is as thick as the walls are thin, and the results just as mixed. Suddenly, Caroline is finding she may have discovered a whole new definition of neighborly...

In a delicious mix of silly and steamy, Alice Clayton dishes out a hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight...

Reactions
I liked the "Readhead" series written by Alice Clayton. The trilogy made me laugh so it was with pleasure that I plunged into this new story.

I found it naughty, witty, fun and sexy. Alice Clayton is a master at romantic humor.
Her tale is hilarious.

The altercations between Simon and Caroline are cute and accelerate crescendo. Maybe the outcome was a bit long to come but the story is well put together. The words flow nicely and you kept a smile on your face while reading.

I also like the musical references and Caroline's group of friends that are always ready to make her dive into troubles. I also liked Simon's experimental sexuality and how the author approaches the subject without judgment.

Only downside, the prince charming fairy tale with the hero being loaded...Not necessary...Simon was already awesome the way he was...

A funny and playful romance.
Perfect to take to the beach this summer!

*WALLBANGER BY ALICE CALYTON
COCKTAIL VOL 1

THE BUTCHER BY JENNIFER HILLIER

Synopsis
From the author of the acclaimed suspense novels Creep and Freak and whom Jeffery Deaver has praised as a “top of the line thriller writer,” The Butcher is a high-octane novel about lethal secrets that refuse to die—until they kill again.

A rash of grisly serial murders plagued Seattle until the infamous “Beacon Hill Butcher” was finally hunted down and killed by police chief Edward Shank in 1985. Now, some thirty years later, Shank, retired and widowed, is giving up his large rambling Victorian house to his grandson Matt, whom he helped raise.

Settling back into his childhood home and doing some renovations in the backyard to make the house feel like his own, Matt, a young up-and-coming chef and restaurateur, stumbles upon a locked crate he’s never seen before. Curious, he picks the padlock and makes a discovery so gruesome it will forever haunt him… Faced with this deep dark family secret, Matt must decide whether to keep what he knows buried in the past, go to the police, or take matters into his own hands.

Meanwhile Matt’s girlfriend, Sam, has always suspected that her mother was murdered by the Beacon Hill Butcher—two years after the supposed Butcher was gunned down. As she pursues leads that will prove her right, Sam heads right into the path of Matt’s terrible secret.

A thriller with taut, fast-paced suspense, and twists around every corner, The Butcher will keep you guessing until the bitter, bloody end.

Reactions
This story intrigued me as soon as I've read the synopsis.

From the beginning, I liked that the reader is able to know the identity of the serial killer. This helped to get into his head and see his interactions with others. He really likes to play with fire, manipulating people.
This character is intriguing, captivating as well as repugnant. But he made me curious. I would have enjoyed if the author had allowed me to go a little more into the serial killer's mind.

I also liked the weight of family secrets and choices that ambition can lead to.

I admit I had a great time with the characters and the plot. For cons, I did not have the "wow" factor or some racing of my heart that would have made me devour this novel.

I had a great time but not intense enough for my taste!

*THE BUTCHER BY JENNIFER HILLIER
