Synopsis

This novel amazed and intoxicated me. 
It reads like a police investigation to find out the reasons behind the legacy left for Grace by a stranger. 

Therefore, an immersion into Eva's memories. An adventurous woman, who begins her journey as a maid in a New York hotel as a teen, to her professional gambling life. 
She was also a muse and mistress to influential men. 

Full of unexpected happy or unhappy events. Full of memorable encounters. Full of devouring and heartbreaking passions. 
A wonderful and moving slice of life! 

But also, a wealth of informations about odors and the manufacture of perfumes. 
On the status of women in the 20s to 60s. Women's relationship to money, to men in the prosperous and most troubled years of the past. 

A moving and captivating story. 
I was touched by these strong and vulnerable women who were not afraid to make choices...

Une incroyable balade dans le temps, les passions, les odeurs et les ambitions de plusieurs femmes au siècle dernier. 

Ce roman m'a étonné et captivé. 

Il se lit comme une enquête policière pour découvrir les raisons derrière l'héritage laissé à Grace par une inconnue, mais aussi une plongée dans les souvenirs d'Eva. 
Une femme aventureuse avec une adolescence de femme de chambre dans un hôtel new-yorkais à sa vie de tricheuse professionnelle puis de muse et de maîtresse pour des hommes influents. 



Une vie pleine d'imprévus heureux ou malheureux, pleine de rencontres marquantes et de passions dévorantes et déchirantes. 
Une magnifique tranche de vie!

Mais c'est aussi une mine d'informations sur les odeurs et la fabrication des parfums. 
Sur la condition des femmes dans les années 20 au années 60. Le rapport des femmes à l'argent et aux hommes dans ces années fastes puis plus troubles. 

Le récit est enivrant, captivant. 
J'ai été touchée par ces femmes fortes et fragiles qui n'ont pas eu peur de faire des choix.
