NEXT TO YOU
VOL 1 TO 10
Synopsis
Nina's neighbor, Kyousuke, is starting high school while she's still stuck in junior high. Just walking to their nearby schools together isn't enough for her--especially since they keep running into Yuiko: a beautiful, outgoing girl in Kyousuke's grade who also seems to harbor feelings for Nina's next-door neighbor.
Reactions
A manga that made me the effect of a teleshopping channel. Let me explain my meaning... When you watch this king of program, you know you will waste your time and that the products are rubbish but you keep watching. After some time, it's like you have been hypnotized and you continue to watch or, in this case, to turn the pages.
It was the same with this confusing story about friendship and first love.
Ultimately, it is full of cliches.
Nina confuses friendship and love. She clings to her friendship for fear of losing her neighbor. She can not turn the pages and appears as a pathetic heroin despite, its large forced smiles.
Yuiko is the rival. But a pathetic one too, since she does not know how to love. She is using people to avoid being lonely. She throws herself on the first guy to forget her loneliness and returns a rather negative picture of woman with all her manipulations, her insincerity and her trend of infidelity.
Then, Kyousuke is the boy that everyone wants.
He is coward, afraid to take risks and to confess his feelings. Because of his inaction, people are suffering. And when he finally decides to act, it is too late.
A great waste of feelings!
A manga that I would not advise young romantic girls to read it, despite rather interesting designs. Women are portrayed as unworthy of trust, changing, who use tears like a weapon.
Only positive aspect, the happy ending is not as predictable as expected.
However, 10 volumes to get there ...Pfff!
I was quite annoyed and disappointed by the script but the design are not bad.

Open a book, it's like starting an adventure. You never know in advance whether it will make you travel, cry, laugh or shudder...
