Synopsis 
Psychologist Sarah Hagan thought she had her life under control. She pulled herself together after a painful (and unexpected) divorce. She’s currently dating a successful but neglectful attorney—a relationship that is adequate, if not totally satisfying. She has a few good friends, lives in a beautiful condo in the heart of Chicago, and loves her work as a therapist.

From the outside, it looks like her life is almost perfect. it only takes one patient -- a handsome younger man named Carlos who is on parole for car theft -- to put her well-ordered life into a tailspin. As she regresses him with hypnotherapy, she discovers an unusual presence. Is this some elaborate alter ego that Carlos has created or is something much stranger going on? 

In Sarah’s attempt to help Carlos deal with his issues of anger and a troubled past, she is captivated by the persona she uncovers through hypnosis Aris. Aris reveals that he is a vampire whose story begins in the time of Alexander the Great. His retelling of his lives, involvement and apparent demise in the court of Henry VIII keep her spellbound and hungry for more.

On top of grappling with a phantom vampire, Sarah begins to have the most disturbing (and sensual) dreams. They awake the emotion, passion and vulnerability that she thought she had buried for good. The dreams both terrify and excite her as she struggles to make sense out of her world turned upside down. Sarah genuinely cares about Carlos as a patient and wants to help him find his way to a better life, but he has brought chaos, confusion and danger into her neatly buttoned-up reality. 

And if that’s not enough to deal with, she is inexplicably drawn to Aris in a way she can’t begin to rationalize. Can Sarah possibly love this vampire ghost or will he destroy everything she treasures?

Reactions
Original, this story intrigued me from the synopsis. A vampire story that is not trivial and makes the reader travel through time. 

Indeed, the reader start his journey by lying on the couch of a psychiatrist from Chicago nowadays to fly in antiquity and to end up in the England of Henry VIII through the stories of a vampire hidden in the subconscious of a young awesome offender. 

I appreciated the originality of the main plot and the intrigues of the court told by Aris. Although I must admit that I found some lengths and I skipped a few passages.

I also appreciated the efforts of Carlos to change his live and his willingness to become better. Even though it's a little cliché, the concept of the outstretched hand and a meeting that can change your life forever, I found the story positively touching. 

However, Sarah's attitude with Carlos annoyed me. She is not clear by whom she is drawn in this first volume and suddenly, I felt that Carlos was used. 
So, in the end, I was a little puzzled by her reaction. 

Despite this, I enjoyed the ending that leaves the reader wondering how the relationship will evolve. 

An original vampire story, interesting, by which I hope to be surprised in the next volume that promises to be full of surprises ...

Sarah Hagan, psychologue, pensait qu'elle avait sa vie en main. Elle s'est ressaisie après un douloureux (et inattendu) divorce. Actuellement, elle sort avec un avocat à succès mais quelque peu négligent. Leur relation est adéquate même si elle n'est pas totalement satisfaisante.

Elle a quelques bons amis, vit dans une belle copropriété au cœur de Chicago et aime son travail en tant que thérapeute. De l'extérieur, il semble que sa vie soit presque parfaite. Mais il suffit d'un seul patient - un beau jeune homme prénommé Carlos, en liberté conditionnelle pour vol de voiture, pour mettre la pagaille dans sa vie bien ordonnée. 

Alors qu'elle l'endort grâce à de l'hypnothérapie, elle découvre une présence inhabituelle. Est-ce un alter ego complexe que Carlos s'est créé ou est quelque chose de beaucoup plus étrange ? 

Dans sa tentative d'aider Carlos à traiter ses problèmes de colère et de l'ordre dans son trouble passé, Sarah se retrouve fascinée par le personnage qu'elle découvre à travers l'hypnose: Aris. Aris lui révèle qu'il est un vampire dont l'histoire commence à l'époque d'Alexandre le Grand. Son récit de ses vies, sa participation aux intrigues et la disparition apparente de la cour d'Henri VIII la tienne en haleine et avide de plus détails.

En plus de se dépatouiller avec un vampire fantôme, Sarah commence à avoir les plus inquiétants (et sensuelles) des rêves. Ils réveillent des émotions, de la passion et une vulnérabilité qu'elle avait pensé enterré pour de bon. Ses rêves la terrifie et l'excite à la fois alors qu'elle a du mal à donner un sens à son monde qui semble tourner à l'envers. 
Sarah tient sincèrement à Carlos comme patient et veut l'aider à trouver son chemin vers une vie meilleure, mais il a amené le chaos, la confusion et du danger dans sa réalité proprement rangée. 

Et comme si cela ne suffisait pas, elle est inexplicablement attirée par Aris d'une manière qu'elle ne peut pas rationaliser. Sarah peut-elle vraiment aimer ce vampire fantôme ou peut-il détruire tout ce qu'elle chérit ?

Impressions
Originale, cette histoire m'a intrigué dès le synopsis. Une histoire de vampire pas banale qui fait voyager. 

En effet, le lecteur passe du divan d'un psy de Chicago à notre époque à l'Antiquité puis à l'Angleterre sous Henri VIII grâce aux récits d'un vampire caché dans le subconscient d'un jeune délinquant. 

J'ai apprécié l'originalité de l'intrigue principale ainsi que les intrigues de la cour contées par Aris. Même si je dois avouer que j'y ai trouvé des longueurs et que j'ai sauté quelques passages.

J'ai apprécié également les tentatives de Carlos pour changer de vie et devenir meilleur. Même si ça fait un peu cliché, le concept de la main tendue et d'une rencontre qui peut bouleverser une vie, j'ai trouvé le récit positif et attendrissant. 

Par contre, l'attitude de Sarah face à Carlos m'a gêné. On ne sait pas vraiment par qui elle est attirée dans ce premier volume et du coup, j'ai eu l'impression qu'elle utilisait Carlos pour se rapprocher d'Aris. Du coup, à la fin, j'ai été un peu perplexe par sa réaction. 
Malgré cela, j'ai apprécié la chute qui laisse le lecteur se demander comment la relation va évoluer. 

Une histoire de vampire originale, intéressante par laquelle j'espère être surprise dans le prochain volume qui promet d'être plein de rebondissements...
