Synopsis
Jolie Benoit left her old life behind to become an agent of the Underlight. Training under Sergeant Wesley Haukon, she’s honing her combat skills, all the while coping with the intense sexual attraction she feels for Hauk. She keeps their friendship casual, but when his high school sweetheart transfers into their division, Jolie finds herself grappling with jealousy.

The Underlight gave Hauk a purpose, but he can’t escape his past completely. The physical and emotional scars from the fire that killed seven fellow Army Rangers will mark him forever. Jolie sends his protective instincts into overdrive, but he’s convinced he’ll never be worthy of her love.

Hauk is determined to keep Jolie from harm. But when the Order of Ananke ambushes them with a new weapon that neutralizes Hauk, making him vulnerable, it’s Jolie who must tap into her hidden strengths to rescue him—or risk losing him forever… 

Reactions 
In "How beauty met the beast," I 've been immersed in a remake of the 80s serie with a some naughty dialogue to spice up the action. I also liked the supernatural part with the events related to the order of Ananke. Naturally, I expected to see more magical developement with in this volume.

So I was a little surprised to find myself in full training with Sydney Bristaw to learn how to flatten a guy to the ground like a pancake. Not that I will know how do it again, even though I obviously read all the explanations. 

I continue to be a fan of the femme fatale pinup mixed with Jolie's talents for fighting. But if I was gladly bluffed by her tigress teasing side, her jealousy made ​​me roll my eyes. 

While I admit that my reading was still fun, I was more bored than in the first volume. There is action but strangely less pace and suspense. Not much surnatural but too much jealousy outburst that were full of clichés. 

Suddenly, I found the story was turning in circle... Hawk was so inclined to depreciate himself that even his playfull retorts annoyed me. A shame for this great male character. 

For me, the story has lost its bite.

Jolie Benoit a laissé son ancienne vie derrière elle pour devenir un agent de l'Underlight. S'entrainant sous les ordres du sergent Wesley Haukon, elle affine ses compétences au combat, tout en essayant de faire face à l'attraction sexuelle intense qu'elle éprouve pour Hauk. 

Elle garde leur relation amicale sans prise de tête, mais quand son amour de jeunesse est transféré dans leur division, Jolie se retrouve rongée par la jalousie. 

L'Underlight a donné à Hauk un but mais il ne peut pas complètement échapper à son passé. Les cicatrices physiques et émotionnelles laissées par l'incendie, qui a tué sept autres militaires, l'on marqué à jamais. Jolie réveille dangereusement son instinct de protection mais il est convaincu qu'il ne sera jamais digne de son amour.


Hauk est déterminé à garder Jolie contre tous les dangers. Mais quand l'Ordre d'Ananke leur tend une embuscade avec une nouvelle arme qui neutralise Hauk, le laissant vulnérable, c'est Jolie qui doit puiser dans ses forces insoupçonnées pour le secourir ou risquer de le perdre à jamais ...  

Impressions
Dans "How beauty met the beast", j'avais eu l'impression de me retrouver plongé dans un remake de la série des années 80 avec des réparties coquines pour pimenter l'action. J'avais aussi apprécié la part de surnaturel avec l'ordre d'Ananke. 

Naturellement, je m'attendais à la voir plus développée dans ce volume.

J'ai donc été un peu surprise de me retrouver avec Sydney Bristaw en plein entrainement à apprendre à aplatir un mec au sol comme une crêpe. Pas que je sache le refaire, évidemment même si j'ai bien lu toutes les explications. 

Je continue a être fan du côté femme fatale de la pin up mixé avec les talents aux combats de Jolie. Mais si l'aspect tigresse allumeuse m'a séduite, sa jalousie m'a fait lever mes yeux au ciel. Alors j'avoue que si ma lecture a été sympa, je me suis plus ennuyée que dans le premier volume. 

De l'action mais étrangement moins de rythme. Pas trop de magie mais et des explosions de jalousie. Du coup, j'ai trouvé que l'histoire tournait plus en rond avec un Hawk tellement enclin à jouer les serpillières et à se déprécier que ça m'a agacée. 

L'histoire a perdu de son mordant et c'est dommage.
