Synopsis
One night in college can change everything… 

Away at college, Amy just wants one night alone without her high school sweetheart, Joe. So when he invites her to go to the library, she heads off on her own instead. 
How she ended up at a house party with the mysterious bad-boy Trevor is another story… 

Joe so isn’t going to the library. He needs space from Amy, too, so he’s decided to rush a fraternity, to get back the swagger he had in high school. But it doesn’t take long for the brothers to invite him to the real rush here the beer is flowing and one particular girl has set her eyes on Joe.

Over the course of one wild night, both Amy and Joe will have to decide if their futures belong with two new people, or whether the next forever will have their first loves in it. 

Summary
Amy and Joe have been together since high school and a simple conversation on the campus of the University will oblige them to face their destiny. Will they continue together, or will they prefer a new flavor?

A single word and everything is rocking ... 

Short, direct and very well written, this novel is very well built. Thus, the reader witnesses a simple conversation between a couple. Joe asks Amy to move in with him in fall. Nothing spectacular or easier for the couple formed in high school. It's a logical step in a relationship. But once the words are spoken, reactions get carried away.

Beyond showing that everything can change from a single word, the author also manages to describe a very realistic fears that all couples must face one day: Commitment. 

It always appears when crossing a course a significant step that differs for each couple: moving in together, formal presentation to parents, marriage, children, there is always a moment of anguish. 
Have I made ​​the right choice? Is it what I want to do with my life? Is the grass not greener elsewhere? Am I fucking up my life? Is it THE ONE ? 

Questions that always end sought answers in alcohol, friends or some stupid tests to check the robustness of the link. This fear is legitimate because if it is overcome, it has implications throughout your all life. 

Lisa Burstein portrays the whole situation very correctly with the right emotions. She also manages to show the reader how the right questionning can make people grow.

There is no right answer to the questions of the two heroes. Moreover, throughout the story, I wanted Amy to work on her crush on Trevor. I liked his dark side, his fragility under his tough side. 

I enjoyed the thin line on which the characters evolve like tightrope walkers. Emotions are just realistic. They learn that space, a secret garden away from each other, is essential in a relationship. 

The ending is moving. It shows that one night can reveal many secrets. We do not know the others as well as we think and they can still surprise us. The important thing is whether you want to be surprised...

A la fac, Amy veut juste passer une seule nuit sans son amoureux du lycée, Joe. Alors, quand il l'invite à aller à la bibliothèque, elle décide de partir en vadrouille. 
Comment elle s'est retrouvée à une fête dans une maison avec le mystérieux bad boy Trevor, c'est une autre histoire ... 

Mais Joe n'est pas allé à la bibliothèque. Lui aussi a besoin d'espace face à Amy, donc il a décidé d'entrer dans une fraternité et récupérer l'insouciance arrogante qu'il avait au lycée. 
Mais il n'a pas fallu longtemps pour que les frères l'invitent à la véritable fête où la bière coule à flots et ou une fille en particulier a jeté son dévolu sur Joe.

Au cours d'une nuit un peu folle, Amy et Joe devront décider si leur avenir se dessine avec deux nouvelles personnes, ou si l'éternité se passera avec leur premier amour. 

Résumé
Amy et Joe sont ensemble depuis le lycée et une simple conversation sur le campus de l'université va les mettre face à leur destin. 
Vont-ils continuer un bout de chemin ensemble ou vont-ils préférer craquer sur la nouveauté ?

Impressions
Une simple conversation est tout est remis en question. Une question est tout bascule... 

Courte, directe et très bien écrite, cette nouvelle est très bien construite. Ainsi, le lecteur assiste à une conversation toute simple d'un couple. Joe demande à Amy d'emménager avec lui à la rentrée. 
Rien de plus simple pour ce couple formé au lycée sauf qu'une fois les mots prononcés, les réactions s'emballent.


Au delà de montrer que tout peut basculer dans la vie sur un simple mot, l'auteur parvient également à décrire de manière très réaliste les angoisses auxquels tous les couples doivent faire face un jour: S'engager et se projeter. 

Au moment de franchir un cap qui diffère pour chaque couple: emménager ensemble, présentation officielle aux parents, mariage, enfant, il y a toujours un moment d'angoisse. 
Est-ce que j'ai fait le bon choix ? Est-ce que je veux faire ma vie avec l'autre ? Est-ce que l'herbe ne serait pas plus verte ailleurs ? Est-ce que je ne fais pas une connerie ? Est-ce que c'est LA personne faite pour moi ? 

Des interrogations qui finissent toujours par des réponses cherchées dans l'alcool, les amis ou des tests pour vérifier la solidité du lien. Cette peur est légitime car si elle est surmontée, elle a des répercutions sur toute la vie. Lisa Burstein le dépeint très bien. Elle parvient également à montrer la manière dont cela peut faire grandir.

Il n'y a pas de bonne réponse aux questions des deux héros. D'ailleurs, tout au long du récit, j'ai eu envie qu'Amy craque sur Trevor et son côté obscur. J'ai apprécié la ligne fragile sur laquelle évolue les personnages comme des funambules. 
Les émotions sont justes, réalistes. Ils apprennent aussi que l'espace, un jardin secret loin de l'autre, est essentiel dans une relation. 

La fin est émouvante. Elle montre qu'une nuit peut vous révéler de nombreux secrets et qu'une relation réserve toujours des surprises. On ne connait jamais l'autre aussi bien qu'on le pense et il peut toujours nous surprendre. L'important est de savoir si l'on veut être surpris.
