Synopsis
In this New Adult debut by Robin York, a college student is attacked online and must restore her name—and stay clear of a guy who’s wrong for her, but feels so right.

When Caroline Piasecki’s ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn’t look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear, hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defense and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he’s shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger—even after promising her dad she’ll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works.

They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they’re “just friends,” their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The more complicated her relationship with West gets, the harder Caroline has to struggle to discover what she wants for herself—and the easier it becomes to find the courage she needs to fight back against the people who would judge her.

When all seems lost, sometimes the only place to go is deeper.

Reactions
I enjoyed this very contemporary romance for young adults, although I found it a bit long to start on a romantic point of view.

What most attracted me from the start, after reading the synopsis, was the sexual photos that are spread on the internet. Something intimate that become viral. (You can't see me but I'm shivering at this thoughts!)

A topic that is chilling as the victim is completely helpless. Because once on the net, it's a pain to get rid of. A cruel joke, a former spiteful ex, some jealous friends and a life may end up because everyone in the habit of going on google to find information about a person. How awful! Even at my worst ennemy is something that I will never whish to happen.

Nowadays, everybody check everybody on the internet. A futur employer, a potential boyfriend or a friend that you have lost touch with... The first reflex or impulse is to go look on the internet. So having your private life exposed for all to comment, badmouth and judge, it is the fear of all teens, parents in this century. Because sometimes the consequences can lead to terrible, desperate acts.

So, I was very interested in how Robin York slips into Caroline's head throughout the novel. It's very well done!
West has a huge potential but his two steps forward, two steps back... Exhausting!. His indecision is irritating despite the excuses given by the author to justify his behavior.

However, despite my irritation with this character, I'm dying to know how the relationship between Caroline and West will continue. Despite their flaws, they are very endearing.

A great contemporary romance that makes you think!

Caroline essaie de faire disparaître les images, en espérant que le temps aidera à atténuer sa honte. Puis, un mec qu'elle connaît à peine prend sa défense et casse la gueule à son ex.

West Leavitt est la dernière personne dont Caroline a besoin dans sa vie. Tout le monde sait qu'il est louche. Pourtant, Caroline est attirée sur sa confiance et son arrogance, même après avoir promis à son père qu'elle garderait ses distances. Et lors de ses nuits blanches, Caroline commence à errer dans la boulangerie où travaille West.

Ils traînent ensemble, ils parlent, ils s'écoutent. Bien que Caroline et West se disent n'être que des "amis", leurs sentiments s'intensifient jusqu'à ce qu'ils leur deviennent impossible de faire semblant.
Plus sa relation avec West devient compliquée, plus Caroline éprouve des difficultés à savoir ce qu'elle veut pour elle-même. Et plus, il devient facile de trouver le courage dont elle a besoin pour se battre contre les gens qui la juge.

Quand tout semble perdu, parfois le seul endroit où aller, c'est encore plus en profondeur.

Impressions
J'ai bien aimé cette romance pour jeunes adultes très contemporaine, bien que je l'ai trouvé un peu longue à démarrer d'un point de vue romantique.

Ce qui m'a le plus attiré, depuis la lecture du synopsis, c'était les photos sexuelles qui sont propagées sur internet.
Un sujet qui fait froid dans le dos tant la victime est impuissante. Car une fois sur la toile, c'est une galère pour s'en défaire. Une blague cruelle, un ex rancunier, des amis jaloux et une vie peut se retrouver brisée.

En effet, internet est incontournable. Tout le monde à le réflexe d'aller sur google rechercher des infos sur une personne.
Autant un employeur, qu'un petit copain potentiel ou qu'un ami qu'on a perdu de vue, le premier geste est d'aller regarder sur internet.
Alors avoir sa vie intime exposée aux yeux de tous et recevoir des commentaires dégradants, c'est la peur de tous les ados, parents du XXI siècle. Car parfois, les conséquences peuvent amener les victimes jusqu'à des actes terribles.

Bref, j'ai été très intéressée par la manière dont Robin York se glisse dans la tête de Caroline pendant tout le roman. West a un énorme potentiel mais ses deux pas en avant, deux pas en arrière m'ont fatigué. Son indécision est irritante malgré les excuses données par l'auteur pour justifier son comportement.

Malgré mon irritation avec ce personnage, je meurs d'envie de savoir comment la relation entre Caroline et West va tourner car les deux héros, malgré leurs défauts, sont très attachants.

Belle romance contemporaine qui fait réfléchir!
