Synopsis

Cami Broussard has her future all figured out. She'll finish her senior year of high school, then go to work full-time as an apprentice chef in her father's French restaurant, alongside her boyfriend, Luke. But then twenty-year-old ex-Marine Julian Wyatt comes to live with Cami's family while recovering from serious injuries. And suddenly Cami finds herself questioning everything she thought she wanted. 

Julian's all attitude, challenges and intense green-brown eyes. But beneath that abrasive exterior is a man who just might be as lost as Cami's starting to feel. Okay, I confess after a quick glimpse at the cover, I thought it will be a traditional, light and easy going romance. 
Well, after reading it, I regret my hastily judgement. 

I had a great time with the characters who doubt, who seek and who are determined to face the challenges to go forward. 
Having for a hero, an ex-Marines, who sustained injuries and an amputation after serving in Afghanistan makes the story surprising realistic and original. 
This changes from the perfect hero without any flaw. 

Julian must fight against his nightmares, against his vision of himself as a crippled and find his place in society. Even if he was once a good looking guy, now he doubts his worth especially when he wants to capture Cami's heart. 

As for Cami, she is a mature for high school girls. She knows what she wants and she makes sacrifices to obtain her goals. She wants to become a recognized chef and will stop at nothing, not even the long hours past in a professional kitchen to fulfill her dream. 
Her incredible determination, at a time when people think rather to party and enjoy life, is impressive or maybe a little bit crazy 

The mixture of serious topics combined with a tender but profound love story gives a different dimension to this romance for young adults.

Cami Broussard a son avenir tout tracé. Elle va terminer sa dernière année de lycée, puis aller travailler à plein temps comme apprenti cuisinier dans le restaurant français de son père, aux côtés de son petit ami, Luke. 
Mais un ex-Marine, âgé de vingt ans, Julian Wyatt vient vivre avec la famille de Cami pour récupérer de blessures graves. Et soudain Cami se retrouve à remettre en question tout ce qu'elle pensé vouloir. 

Julian a un sacré tempérament, aimant les défis et possède d'intense yeux vert-brun. Mais sous cet extérieur abrasif réside un homme qui pourrait bien être aussi perdu que Cami commence à se sentir. Et Cami ne peut pas s'arrêter de penser à lui. De lui parler. De vouloir l'embrasser. Il a mis sacrément la pagaille dans sa vie. Sa dernière année de lycée vient juste de prendre une tournure beaucoup plus compliquée .... 

Impressions 
Ok, j'avoue...ça avait l'air d'une romance traditionnelle, légère, pour passer un weekend sympa sans trop réfléchir. 
Et bien, je regrette d'avoir jugé cette histoire hâtivement. 

J'ai passé un excellent moment avec les personnages qui doutent, qui se cherchent et qui sont déterminés à affronter les difficultés pour aller de l'avant. 
 Le fait d'avoir un héros, ex-Marines, ayant subi des blessures et une amputation après avoir servi en Afghanistan, rend le récit réaliste et original. Cela change des héros parfait. 

Julian doit se battre contre ses cauchemars, contre sa vision de lui-même estropié et trouver sa place dans la société et dans le coeur de Cami. 

Quant à Cami, elle est une lycée mature qui sait ce qu'elle veut et n'hésite pas à faire des sacrifices pour atteindre ses objectifs. 
Elle souhaite devenir un chef reconnu et ne recule devant rien, pas même les longues heures passées en cuisine pour accomplir son rêve. 

Une détermination incroyable, à une époque où l'on pense plutôt à faire la fête et à profiter de la vie, qui m'a impressionner même si elle semble un peu folle. 

Le mélange de sujets sérieux allié à une histoire d'amour tendre mais profonde donne une dimension différente à cette romance pour jeunes adultes.
