Synopsis 

When post-grad Rachael Hamilton accidentally gatecrashes a pro-athlete party, she ends up face-to-face with Ryan Carter, the NFL’s most beloved quarterback. 

While most girls would be thrilled to meet the attractive young millionaire, Rachael would rather spend time with books than at sporting events, and she has more important things to worry about than romance. Like her parents pressuring her to leave her unpaid publishing internship for law school. Or her brother, who’s obliviously dating Rachael’s high school bully. Or that same high school’s upcoming reunion. 


Still, when Ryan’s rookie teammate attaches himself to Rachael, she ends up cohosting Friday night dinners for half a dozen football players. Over pancake brunches, charity galas, and Alexander the Great Rachael realizes all the judgments she’d made about Ryan are wrong. But how can a Midwestern Irish-Catholic jock with commitment problems and an artsy, gun-shy Jewish New Englander ever forge a partnership? 


Rachael must let down her barriers if she wants real love–even if that opens her up to pain that could send her back into her emotional shell forever. 

Reactions 
A first novel written by Allison Parr really well done that completely amazed me. I was bluffed.. 

Reading the synopsis, the novel seemed light and entertaining enought but the plot was not original at all. I chose this reading because the romance intrigue between a football star and a nerd/geek would be predictable but perfect for an evening without thinking. I was spoiled! 
Nothing happened as I expected ... 

I really had a great time, without cliché and without correctly guessing the intentions of the heros. The author took the opposing view from what I imagined and the characters have me hooked. A great discovery. 

Thus, if the plot itself is not original, the way it is brought made ​​me smile.

A young woman who, inadvertently, crashes a party and landed in a gathering of groupies and men, full of muscles built like tank, was interesting. And what about the first meeting with Rachel's prince charming? Hilarious! 
Rachel's temper is also incredible. It gives the tone of this corrosive romance. 

I enjoyed the two heroes fighting against prejudice and preconceptions. 
In fact, the footballer has a brain, the intellectual became a groupie and the high school bully/bitch has an heart... the bottom line: apparences and others's opinion is not really important when you really are in love. 

Confrontations between Ryan and Rachel spice up the reading. Hot and angry reflections burst forth and made ​​me smile because alternately, I could well have had the same reactions as the characters. Love is learning to grow up at two, make concessions and get naked physically and mentally in front of each other. 
Their anxieties, insecurities make the protagonists real, modern and touching. 

I enjoyed being charmed and refreshed by a fairy tale of modern times where everything is not pink. Nice surprise. 
An author I will certainly follow ...

Comme ses parents faisant pression pour qu'elle quitte son stage, non rémunéré, dans une maison d'édition pour rentrer en Fac de droit. Ou son frère, qui sort avec la fille qui a fait des années de lycée de Rachael un enfer. Ou les retrouvailles, à venir, avec les mêmes gens de ce fameux lycée. 

Pourtant, lorsqu'un jeune coéquipier de Ryan s'attache à Rachel, elle finit par co-animer les dîners du vendredi soir pour une demi-douzaine de joueurs de football. 

Au cours de brunchs, de galas de charité et d'Alexandre le Grand, Rachael réalise que tous les jugements qu'elle a fait au sujet de Ryan sont faux. Mais comment un sportif Irlandais, catholique du middle west, avec des problèmes d'engagement et une artiste juive, affreusement timide de la Nouvelle-Angleterre peuvent-ils arriver à forger un partenariat ? 

Rachael doit laisser tomber ses barrières si elle veut aimer vraiment, même si cela l'ouvre à une douleur qui pourrait la renvoyer dans sa coquille émotionnelle pour toujours.

Impressions
Un premier roman qui semblait léger et distrayant qui m'a complètement scotché et bluffé. 

J'avais choisi cette romance en pensant que l'intrigue, entre la star du football et la geek, allait être prévisible mais parfait pour passer une soirée sans réfléchir. 
J'ai été gâtée! 
Rien ne s'est passé comme je l'attendais... 

J'ai vraiment passé un très bon moment, sans cliché et sans deviner correctement les intentions des héros. 
L'auteur m'a pris à contre pied et les personnages m'ont accrochés. 
Une belle découverte. 

Ainsi, si l'intrigue en elle-même n'est pas originale la manière dont elle est amenée m'a fait sourire. 

Une jeune femme qui se plante de soirée, et atterrit dans une soirée de groupies et d'armoires à glace pleine de muscles, était intéressant. La première rencontre avec le prince charmant de Rachel est également à tomber. Enfin, le tempérament inflammable de l'héroïne donne le ton de cette romance corrosive. 

J'ai apprécié que les deux héros se battent contre les préjugés et les idées reçues. 
Ainsi, le footballeur a un cerveau, l'intello devient une groupie et la pétasse du lycée a un coeur. L'essentiel: le regard des autres n'est plus vraiment important quand on aime vraiment. 

Les confrontations entre Ryan et Rachel pimentent la lecture. Les réflexions fusent et m'ont faites sourire car, tour à tour, j'aurai pu parfaitement avoir les mêmes réactions que les personnages et m'énerver comme eux. 
 Aimer c'est apprendre à grandir à deux, à faire des concessions et se mettre à nu devant l'autre. Les angoisses, insécurités des protagonistes rendent l'histoire réelle, touchante et très moderne. 

J'ai apprécié d'avoir été charmée et rafraîchie par un conte de fée des temps modernes où tout n'est pas rose. Belle surprise. Un auteur que je suivrai assurément...
