Left to die in those same deep woods, Kelsey is the last thing Alex expects to find at his cabin. She’s everything he’s running away from. Responsibility. Memories. Having to care about someone else beside himself. To make matters worse, she can’t remember anything except her first name. Neither can she explain the marks on her body, nor why two darling baby boys haunt her dreams.

ReactionsA good start with different points of suspense and a pleasant ending that made this a pleasant read although a little disjointed at time.
The author starts her tale, with a fast pace, by introducing Kelsey in bad shape, on the verge of dying on Alex's steps. Her appearance and injuries raise questions and prompts the reader to turn the pages.
But then, the suspense ends quickly when Alex gets his hands on the one who messed up with Kelsey's face and body.
Then, the author gives a larger share of the narrative to the subject of mourning, reconstruction and the birth of feelings between the two heroes. To be franck, I struggled to keep my attention on the text during this part.
Perhaps because Kelsey is too weak, and at the same time not enough, to imagine herself be attracted to a man. Or simply because neither one of them, in my opinion,are ready to dive into a relationship. However, when my attention seemed to run away, the author has managed to catch me up with a dynamic, violent twist full of suspense. I did not expect it and I liked to me taken aback by a plot.
A great ending due to Haley's presence. A character for whom I had great affection as he seems to have gone through hell. Even if it's a bit uneven, this military romance has a great potential.

Alex Stewart, ex-marine et patron coriace, évite le succès de son entreprise naissante et s'enfuit dans sa cabine au fond des bois. Il en a assez. Quatre ans après la mort de sa femme et de sa fille, il est toujours coincé au stade de la colère et de la douleur. Il veut être laissé en paix. La vie avait tendance à avoir un sens. Maintenant, rien ne lui apporte de la joie. Rien du tout.

Laissée pour morte dans ces mêmes bois, Kelsey est la dernière chose qu'Alex s'attend à trouver dans sa cabane. Elle est tout ce qu'il cherche à fuir.
Responsabilité. Souvenirs. Avoir à se soucier de quelqu'un d'autre que de lui-même. Pour aggraver les choses, elle ne peut pas se souvenir d'autre chose que son prénom. Elle ne peut pas non plus expliquer les marques sur son corps, ni pourquoi deux bébés hantent ses rêves.
Mais Alex peut. . .
Impressions
Une bonne entame alliée à différent points de suspense et une fin agréable ont fait de cette lecture un moment agréable bien qu'un peu décousu.
En effet, l'auteur démarre fort en introduisant Kelsey, en sale état presque sur le point de mourir de ses blessures, sur le perron d'Alex. Son apparence et ses blessures soulèvent des questions et pousse le lecteur à tourner les pages.

Seulement voilà, le suspense prend fin très vite lorsqu'Alex met la main sur celui qui a amoché Kelsey.
Ensuite, l'auteur donne une part plus importante au deuil, à la reconstruction et à la naissance de sentiments entre les deux héros.
J'ai éprouvé des difficultés à garder mon attention sur le texte durant cette partie. Peut-être parce Kelsey est trop faible, et en même temps pas assez, pour l'imaginer être attirée par Alex. Ou tout simplement parce qu'aucun des deux personnages ne semblent encore prêts, à mon avis, à plonger dans une relation.

Au moment où mon attention semblait s'envoler, l'auteur est parvenu à me rattraper par un rebondissement dynamique, violent et plein de suspense. Je ne m'y attendais pas et j'ai aimé. La fin, elle, est très bien tournée avec une belle apparition en la personne de Haley. Un personnage pour lequel j'ai eu immédiatement beaucoup d'affection tant il a l'air d'avoir connu l'enfer.
Un peu inégale, cette romance militaire a pourtant beaucoup de potentiel.
