TEGAN'S RETURN BY L.H COSWAY

THE ULTIMATE POWER SERIES
BOOK 2

Synopsis
Tegan always knew that she couldn’t remain hidden forever, she left Tribane to escape the danger posed to her by the supernatural creatures who dwell there, but every day she has mourned the friends and family she had to leave behind. It’s been two years, but Tegan struggles on with the new lonely life she has built for herself. She might crave human companionship, but at least she’s still alive.

Unfortunately, all of her hard work in running away comes crashing down around her when a familiar face comes strolling into her new place of work one night. She considers leaving and starting over again, but this old acquaintance has a proposition for her, one that will see her returning to Tribane and fighting to rescue a little girl who has been kidnapped.

Tegan feels for the child, but her heart is also swelling at the idea of going home to see the people she has missed the most. Can she kill two birds with one stone? Finally she decides that she will return, but what she finds on her arrival is that her father has gone missing, not to mention there has been an almighty war between the two opposing sides of the city.

Throw into this her mixed emotions at seeing beautiful Ethan again, and there is a whole lot of confusion going on. Tegan finds herself playing the role of a spy, as she tries to find information as to the whereabouts of her father and the girl. Even though she is supposed to be pretending, she can’t help that she is falling for Ethan all over again, and if he discovers her true intentions for coming back then he might just hate her forever.

Summary
:
After being forced out of hiding by Finn, Tegan is back to Tribane to save a little girl who was kidnapped by vampires and find her missing father. With this return, she obliged herself to face her deepest fears, come out of her solitude and open her heart in a city in war where power struggles are raging and dangers everywhere. But above all can she meet with Ethan again and emerge unscathed?

Reactions:
Incredibly addictive!
Always more endearing characters which I had absolutely no desire to separate myself with at the end of my reading...
An adventure too short so much I loved it!

I must admit I've always been apprehensive to read the second volume of a story that I was absolutely thrilled with as it was the case in "
Tegan's Blood." I had discovered an imaginary universe well proportioned. There was a touch of supernatural, one of suspense, a magical one too and a sexy and sensual love story, all packaged in a black and realistic adventure. An explosive mixture which had left me quite shaken by the emotions that this book had awakened in me.

Because reading a good novel is one thing... Find a book that completely immerses you in a world where you do not tire of being, one where you would like the story to go on and on... This is much less common.

So when the author contacted me and asked me to read the sequel of Tegan's adventures, of course I was flattered ...
Also super excited to know what was going on between Ethan and Tegan and also to see Dru and Rita for which I had had a low in the first opus. Then, I also felt a terrible anxiety...
What if the result was not good?
What if I was super disappointed?
I had the pressure!

So friday evening I tried to forget a book that taunted me from the start and tried to remember myself that I had plenty of other stories to finish first. Then yesterday morning at breakfast, I succumbed to temptation...

From the first lines, I realized that I had freaked out for nothing. The style that I liked was there.
So I relaxed and like the heroin, I felt some chills anticipating my reunion with the other characters. But it is the feeling of familiarity that enveloped me like a warm shawl that surprised and pleased me the most. Places like the Crimson, Rita's home were making echoes in my imagination.
Ditto for the Gabriel's timidity, Rita's sharp tongue, Finn's teasing and playful humor or Ethan's sensual bewitching charm.

It was like meeting good friends again after a long time. As a reader, it's the feeling I cherish the most...

As for Tegan even if she has changed, after two years spent away from Tribane, she is calmer, more mature. I liked the new force that inhabits her, as well as her daring side and her new James Bond girl's attitude and powers. So I succumbed again and in all sincerity to the charm of this story.

Obviously, LH Cosway holds some surprises in store for her readers: New villains who makes you shivers like in the "Underworld" series or "The Fearless Vampire Killers" by Polanski .

Some new faces are endearing and surprising as Wolf, Jennifer or annoying as Eliza. As for the plot, even if the story is populated by vampires, witches, dhampirs or spirits, there is always this darkness and this realism with references to World War II, racism from the North and South and the endless struggles for power.
Not to mention the attraction between Ethan and Tegan that becomes deeper and more complex than ever. Finally, a harrowing, intriguing and exciting cliffhanger that promises a lot of new adventures to come in the next book.

I was thrilled, excited and I honestly do not know how I will hold until next year to know what will happen while I devoured this tome in one day, forcing myself to take breaks to make my pleasure last a little longer. I stay super fan and I highly recommend
"THE ULTIMATE POWER SERIES."

Sentences

From Tegan: « I think the reason most artists only become famous after they die is because they are so irritating and full of it in real life. Nobody can stand their massive egos, so it's only after they're gone that we can properly appreciate the beauty of their work. »

From Tegan: «  Then his eyes flash to mine, and the moment seems to last for an eternity. »

From Tetan: « Funnily enough, his proximity has caused me to forget everything else around me, the sounds, the people, right in this moment there is only him. »

From Tegan: « I feel like a cold bitch for not being more emotional at our reunion, but I was never one to be very open with my feelings. Mostly I keep them locked deep inside, which I can tell you is not a healthy way to deal with things. »

From Gabriel: « I think Tegan's something of a Rubik's cube, you get all the squares lined up on one side only to find that the other sides are a mess. »

From Ethan: « 'I want to watch you die in my bed,' his smooth voice tells me, promising me heaven. »

From Tegan: « Because if I sleep with you I'll probably end up falling in love with you, and I don't want my heart broken again. »

From Ethan: « 'You know, ' he whispers, 'you submit rather sweetly when you're in my bed. It's surprising judging from the way you continually persist in challenging me everywhere else'. »

TEGAN'S RETURN BY L.H COSWAY
THE ULTIMATE POWER SERIES
BOOK 2

A GENTLEMAN SAYS "I DO" BY AMELIA GREY

Synopsis
Burgeoning author Catalina Crisp completes a parody involving twins Iverson and Matson Brentwood's scandalous arrival in London and publishes it under her father's name. When the writing hits the town, it's not long before a darkly handsome man--Lord Iverson Brentwood himself--is at her door, looking for her father with blood in his eyes.
Dallying with the dashing rogue seems like the perfect escape...and it should calm him down enough to leave her father alone. But Catalina does the exact opposite--she heats him up like no other woman ever has...

Summary:
To avoid financial ruin, Catalina finished her father's articles and poems in the utmost discretion. But one day, after a parody has been published, Iverson Brentwood comes furiously knocking at her door with the desire to kill her father for the indignity that has been done to his family. To calm this sublime and arrogant visitor and to prevent her secret to be discovered, Catalina must use all her charms ...
Reactions:
I tend to read romance novels, especially when I am sick. I do not know if it is to comfort me, take my mind of my pain or simply because happy ending story are generally easy to read but I tend to over look them up in those moments when I want some lightness.
This is exactly the impression I got from reading
"A Gentleman says" I do ". Easy to enjoy, with a slight plausible plot and characters with short temper and sharp tongue.

Surprisingly, Catalina, is an heroin who does not play the frightened mouse, nor the submissive lady with her head down waiting for someone to take control of her destiny.

Rather, it is she who leads the way into the her father household. She who has spirit and a practical mind that works to help her family.

Certainly, she remains in the shadows to avoid damaging her reputation but she is lively and does not mince her words. I found her interesting, curious and rather daring in her search for answers on topics that were unknown to her.

As for Iverson, he is an angry, arrogant and endearing male. The perfect hero for a good romance!

As for the story, nothing transcendent or nothing that has taken my breath away but yet I had a pleasant and lively time.
I had never read Amelia Grey's novels and I certainly will try one of her previous works if the opportunity arises.
Unless I await the further adventures of the Brentwood's twins to see what will happen to Matson ...

Sentences

« Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddendly you are doing the impossible. » St.Francis of Assisi.

From Iverson: « She reminded him of a sunny spring morning: warm and cool at the same time. »

A GENTLEMAN SAYS « I DO »
BY AMELIA GREY

A Gentleman says « I do ».

HONEY BLOOD BY MITSUKI MIKO

MITSU AJI BLOOD BY MITSUKI MIKO
VOLUME 1

Synopsis from www.mangafox.com
Hinata, a teenage student attending a private school, lives an ordinary life, that is, until some sudden incidents involving vampire happen and a new neighbor moves in next door. Who is this neighbor and just what is happening? Is he behind the crimes?

Reactions:
A famous writer is doing great with his love stories relating a passionate relation between a vampire and a mortal. One day, Hinata, his female neighbour, understand that the young man recounts his life through his novels and so that he is a bloodsucker. She offers herself as his prey...

In this first volume, the story's focus on the characters and on the romantic side their interaction. Once the personnages are presented via beautiful realistic drawings, the reader discovered the true nature of the writer. Of course, it's the start of a strange love story.

However, it's not sloppy or too full of saccharine. Through the last pages, the reader is warned of trouble and obscurs upcoming events that await the couple that might occur in the next volume.

I liked the idea that a kiss for a vampire could be a contract that would bind him forever to his prey and make it deadly for him. The drawings interested me too. The movements are fluid, detailed and the expressions are realistic and well done.

A beautiful discovery even if the plot is not a complete original one. Absolutely not in the same register as
"Vampire Knight" or "Trinity Blood". Definitively darker than "HANA TO AKUMA" (The Flower and the Demon) and certainly for the lovers of "Black Bird".
But in all those mangas, the commun point is the teasing between the vampires or demons and their preys...

The author has piqued my curiosity with interesting details that made me want to explore the rest of the adventures to come.

HONEY BLOOD BY MITSUKI MIKO
MITSU AJI BLOOD BY MITSUKI MIKO
VOLUME 1

TORN BY STEPHANIE GUERRA

Synopsis
Stella Chavez is your classic good girl: straight A's, clean-cut boyfriends, and soccer trophies. You'd never guess that Stella's dad was a drug addict who walked out when she was a kid. Or that inside, Stella wishes for something more.

New girl Ruby Caroline seems like Stella's polar opposite: cursing, smoking, and teetering in sky-high heels. But with Ruby, Stella gets a taste of another world, a world in which parents act like roommates, college men are way more interesting than high school boys, and there is nothing that shouldn't be tried once. It's not long before Stella finds herself torn: between the best friend she's ever had and the friends she's known forever, between her family and her own independence, between who she was and who she wants to be.

But Ruby has a darker side, a side she doesn't show anyone, not even Stella. As Stella watches her friend slowly unravel, she will have to search deep inside herself for the strength to be a true friend, even if it means committing the ultimate betrayal.

Summary:
Stella leads a seemingly ordinary high school life. She has friends that she knows forever, a boyfriend she does not really like but that suits her and sport to let off steam. Until the day when Ruby arrives in her class and in her life.
With Ruby everything looks different, exciting and alive.
But is Stella ready to follow and remain with Ruby in all her crazyness and nonsense?

Reactions:
After reading the summary, my attention was captured and my interest piqued. Immediately, I felt that I would treat myself and my intuition was not wrong ...
I swallowed this book in one day!

However, the story was not the one I was expecting. I do not know how to describe this feeling because the outcome, the characters and the plot were good and definitively well written. But the story is special, perhaps a little too realistic.
That's what disturbed me and thrilled me at the same time...

Indeed, the author has found the right words to portray the tedium and monotony of Stella's life and the complexity of her family's dynamic. It's so ordinary that it gives an impression of reality. As if it could have been us instead of the characters that live the events.
So, the appearance of Ruby spices up the scenary. The reader is on alert. He feel that the story will slip into deep troubles and he remains pending, suspended to the author's pen...

Doing drugs and the banality of the act for teenagers. The fear of others, of changes that can lead people to become vicious, wicked by simple jealousy or envy. Toxic friends. The difficulty of discovering and to love somebody with its strengths and weaknesses and accept it as it is. The insecurity of everyday life face of devious, pervert people.

Sometimes I had chills, recognizing that situations in which Ruby and Stella are found sometimes are not just fiction. Always this realism that can bother...
I wanted to shake these girls for their unconsciousness, then I remembered mine, when I was in high school. I think that's why I got hooked by the book: it's a story that can happen to everybody.

By cons, the bitches who are busted red-handed during the graduation ceremony, this is too much. The final scenes are unnecessary and lacks of the realism that hovered over the major part of the novel.
Despite this blunder, "Torn" is a pleasant discovery. I will carefully wait for the next novel by Stephanie Guerra to see if she continues to surprise me.

Sentences

From Stella: « Even though all we'd done was get a smoothie, I felt as if I'd had an adventure. »

From Stella: « What if someone you love is in trouble, and you can't help them because they don't want to be helped? »

From Mrs Chavez: « And it's only when you realize how weak you are that you can even start to be strong.»

TORN BY STEPHANIE GUERRA

WELCOME, CALLER, THIS IS CHLOE BY SHELLEY CORIELL

Synopsis
Big-hearted Chloe Camden is the queen of her universe until her best friend shreds her reputation and her school counselor axes her junior independent study project. Chloe is forced to take on a meaningful project in order to pass, and so she joins her school’s struggling radio station, where the other students don’t find her too queenly.
Ostracized by her former BFs and struggling with her beloved Grams’s mental deterioration, lonely Chloe ends up hosting a call-in show that gets the station much-needed publicity and, in the end, trouble. She also befriends radio techie and loner Duncan Moore, a quiet soul with a romantic heart.
On and off the air, Chloe faces her loneliness and helps others find the fun and joy in everyday life. Readers will fall in love with Chloe as she falls in love with the radio station and the misfits who call it home.

Summary:
Chloe is a radiant, popular girl. But one day without explanation, her two best friends turn their backs on her and she becomes a social pariah. To make matter worse, her counselor imposes her to work for the school radio to escape failure.
Chloe then landed in a world completely foreign to her and in which she will make discoveries that could change her life entirely...

Reactions:
I requested this book on Netgalley after seeing the pretty cool and retro cover many times on different blogs I visited. Out of curiosity, I read the summary and I told myself that the story could be sympathetic. So I tried to unravel the mystery of Chloe's world...
After turning the first pages, I admit feeling some irritation after the references to her best friends who
become real pests, real harpies. They weren't waiting after Chloe's excuses. It was something stronger, deeper.
Brie is depressed and expressed her ill-being by humiliating her friend just because she didn't bear Chloe's solar personality...

I admit after reading the best friend drama, I had a moment of disappointment and have started reading this book diagonally. But my interest was piqued, again, when Chloe has ventured herself into the local radio station. At this point, the story becomes less superficial, more touching especially with Duncan's entrance.

A novel where one approaches the problem of changes that occure passing the adolescence gap to adulthood. Some are more brutal than others and they are children growing up faster especially if they are witnesses of hard events or if they are deprived of their innocence to assume adult responsibilities too soon. The injustice of life and of the cards that are distributed differently to everyone.

The words of the school counselor, who tries to open the eyes of the bubbly, optimistic Chloe on the reality and harshness of life, pretty much sums up this book.

I also appreciated the lack of "happy ending" between Brie, Chloe and Mercedes. This gave a more realistic side to the story. Sometimes friendship is fading and it is best to let it go ...

I also liked the positive energy of the heroine who does not let herself get depressed, demoralized too long. Chloe positive attitude energizes her surroundings !
But I admit I had a crush on Clementine and her terrifying dragon personality, more funny than frightening.

In short, although there are some lengths in the text, the whole text and story are rather positive, pleasant and make you have a good time.

Sentences

« Has anyone ever told you you're wonderful? » Dunc said.
« Yes, but feel free to continue with that and other similar adjectives. »

From Duncan: « I think it's good not to let things bottle up inside. »

From Chloe: « I wouldn't tell you that silence can hurt worse than mean words. »

From Ms Lungren: « No matter how hard we try, some things don't go as planned. It's a real-world lesson, Chloe, hard but real. »

WELCOME, CALLER, THIS IS CHLOE
BY SHELLEY CORIELL
