Synopsis
Big-hearted Chloe Camden is the queen of her universe until her best friend shreds her reputation and her school counselor axes her junior independent study project. Chloe is forced to take on a meaningful project in order to pass, and so she joins her school’s struggling radio station, where the other students don’t find her too queenly.

Ostracized by her former BFs and struggling with her beloved Grams’s mental deterioration, lonely Chloe ends up hosting a call-in show that gets the station much-needed publicity and, in the end, trouble. She also befriends radio techie and loner Duncan Moore, a quiet soul with a romantic heart.
On and off the air, Chloe faces her loneliness and helps others find the fun and joy in everyday life. Readers will fall in love with Chloe as she falls in love with the radio station and the misfits who call it home.

Summary:
Chloe is a radiant, popular girl. But one day without explanation, her two best friends turn their backs on her and she becomes a social pariah. To make matter worse, her counselor imposes her to work for the school radio to escape failure.

Reactions:
I requested this book on Netgalley after seeing the pretty cool and retro cover many times on different blogs I visited. Out of curiosity, I read the summary and I told myself that the story could be sympathetic. So I tried to unravel the mystery of Chloe's world...

After turning the first pages, I admit feeling some irritation after the references to her best friends who 
become real pests, real harpies. They weren't waiting after Chloe's excuses. It was something stronger, deeper. 
Brie is depressed and expressed her ill-being by humiliating her friend just because she didn't bear Chloe's solar personality...

I admit after reading the best friend drama, I had a moment of disappointment and have started reading this book diagonally. But my interest was piqued, again, when Chloe has ventured herself into the local radio station. At this point, the story becomes less superficial, more touching especially with Duncan's entrance.

A novel where one approaches the problem of changes that occure passing the adolescence gap to adulthood. Some are more brutal than others and they are children growing up faster especially if they are witnesses of hard events or if they are deprived of their innocence to assume adult responsibilities too soon. The injustice of life and of the cards that are distributed differently to everyone. 

The words of the school counselor, who tries to open the eyes of the bubbly, optimistic Chloe on the reality and harshness of life, pretty much sums up this book.

I also appreciated the lack of "happy ending" between Brie, Chloe and Mercedes. This gave a more realistic side to the story. Sometimes friendship is fading and it is best to let it go ...

I also liked the positive energy of the heroine who does not let herself get depressed, demoralized too long. Chloe positive attitude energizes her surroundings !
But I admit I had a crush on Clementine and her terrifying dragon personality, more funny than frightening.
In short, although there are some lengths in the text, the whole text and story are rather positive, pleasant and make you have a good time.

Rejetée par ses anciennes meilleures amies, aux prises avec la détérioration mentale de sa bien-aimé grand-mère, l'esseulée Chloé finit par animer une émission où elle prend des appels auditeurs ce qui permet à la radio de recevoir plus de publicité et, en fin de compte, plus d'ennuis.

Elle se lie également d'amitié avec le technicien solitaire de la radio, Duncan Moore, une âme calme avec un cœur romantique. Sur et hors des ondes, Chloé fait face à sa solitude et aide les autres à trouver du plaisir et de la joie dans la vie quotidienne. Les lecteurs vont tomber amoureuse de Chloé alors qu'elle tombe amoureuse de la station de radio et des marginaux qui appellent sa leur maison.

Résumé:
Chloé est une jeune fille rayonnante et populaire. Un jour pourtant sans explication, ses meilleures amies lui tournent le dos et elle devient un paria dans son lycée. Pour enfoncer le clou sa conseillère lui impose de travailler pour la radio du bahut sous peine d'être recalée.
Chloé débarque alors dans un monde qui lui est complétement étranger et dans lequel elle va faire des découvertes qui pourraient bien changer sa vie...
Impressions:
J'ai demandé ce livre sur Netgalley après avoir aperçu la couverture, plutôt sympa et rétro, de nombreuses fois sur des blogs que je visitais. Par curiosité, j'ai lu le résumé et je me suis dis que l'histoire pouvait être sympathique. Alors j'ai tenté de percer le mystère du monde de Chloé... 


Si les premières pages m'ont irrité avec les références aux meilleures amies qui deviennent des pestes et qui attendent je ne sais trop quoi de Chloé mais certainement pas d'être elle-même... 

J'avoue avoir eu un moment de déception et avoir commencé à lire ce livre en diagonal. Mais mon intérêt a été piqué, à nouveau, dès lors que Chloé s'est aventurée dans les locaux de la radio. L'histoire devient moins superficielle, plus touchante surtout avec Duncan.

Un roman ou l'on aborde la difficulté des changements qui permettent de passer de l'adolescence à l'âge adulte. Certains sont plus brutaux que d'autres et font que les enfants grandissent plus vite surtout s'ils sont témoins d'événements difficiles ou s'ils sont privés de leur innocence pour assumer un rôle d'adulte et les responsabilités qui vont avec trop tôt.
L'injustice de la vie et des cartes qu'elle distribue à chacun. Les mots de la conseillère scolaire qui tente d'ouvrir les yeux de la pétillante, optimiste Chloé sur la réalité et la dureté de la vie résume assez bien ce livre. 

J'ai apprécié également l'absence de « happy ending » entre Brie, Chloé et Mercedes. Cela a donné un côté plus réaliste au récit. Parfois l'amitié s'étiole et il est préférable de la laisser partir... 
J'ai aussi aimé l'énergie positive de l'héroïne qui ne se laisse pas abattre, ni démoraliser trop longtemps. Chloé donne la patate ! Mais j'avoue avoir eu un faible pour Clémentine et sa personnalité de dragon terrifiant, plus rigolote qu'effrayante.

Bref, même s'il y a des petites longueurs dans le texte notamment au démarrage, l'ensemble est plutôt positif, agréable et vous fait passer un bon moment.
