From the first lines the reader is plunged into the vortex of high level competition with the media circus, the pressure of sponsors, the stress to keep good results as if the reader was in the shoes of the athlete.
This is awesome!

Of course, there is a story that develops through the flair of Stevie and Susan Carol who like to find troubles. They find a new scoop to dig into and thanks to their friends and acquaintances let you navigate through the scenes of professional sport. As for the author, he mixes real and fictional events, ditto for the characters, to keep the reader in an exciting environment.

This is perfect for sports enthusiasts who want to distract themself with a suspense novel. Just let yourself go and enjoy the various trails that the two young reporters follow. Although the journalist's cap is left majoritarily to Stevie since Susan Carol plays the stars of the basins.

Beyond the story what fascinated me is the writing of John Feinstein. He reveals sharp details on the training, the discipline and rigor of the butterfly and emotions that only a swimmer could describe as strongly. As if the reader is participating in the race to be the one who gives the final push to reach the wall and head out of water... Splendidly done !

As if one looked a competition on television instead of reading it in a book how clear and vivid the images are pictured. You feel the atmosphere, the chlorine from the pool. My heart rate was accelerating while I was frantically turning the pages to see who has won the race... I was there!
 Ditto for the newsroom atmosphere or the excitement and crazyness of interviews after a big event. Even if the situations are funny or pathetic, the sport sceneries descriptions are always accurate ...

Having had the opportunity to taste this environment, I was particularly blown away by the authenticity of the decor and the way the author has captured the atmosphere. An incredible suspense translated through well-chosen words.

A beautiful novel which I discovered the fourth component and that I will hasten to read the previous volumes as I was truly amazed by this one.
A book to get an advance taste of the London Olympics.

Susan Carol est sous les feux des projecteurs après avoir remporté les mondiaux de natation ainsi que son ticket pour les Jeux Olympiques de Londres. Mais avec la célébrité arrive les responsabilités, les obligations et les ennuis. Heureusement, elle peut compter sur Stevie pour l'épauler et l'aider dans les moments difficiles. Et elle aura besoin d'aide si elle veut gagner l'or olympique...

Impressions:
Des les premières lignes le lecteur est plongé dans le tourbillon de la compétition de haut niveau avec le cirque médiatique, la pression des sponsors, celles des résultats comme s'il était dans les baskets de l'athlète. C'est impressionnant!

Bien sûr, il y a une histoire qui se développe grâce au flair de Stevie et Susan Carol qui tombent sur un nouveau scoop et qui grâce à leurs amis et connaissances vous font naviguer dans les coulisses du sport professionnel. Ainsi l'auteur mélange des compétitions réelles et des fictives. Idem pour les personnages.

C'est parfait pour les amoureux de sports qui veulent se distraire avec un roman a suspense. Il suffit de se laisser porter et de suivre les différentes pistes que recherchent les deux reporters en herbe.
Même si la casquette du journaliste est plus laissé à Stevie puisque Susan Carol joue les stars des bassins.

Au delà de l'histoire ce qui m'a passionné, c'est l'écriture de John Feinstein. Il divulgue des détails pointus sur l'entraînement, sur la discipline et la rigueur du papillon et des émotions que seul un nageur pourrait décrire. Le lecteur a l'impression de participer à la course, d'être celui qui donne la dernière poussée pour toucher le mur et sortir la tête de l'eau.

Comme si l'on regardait une compétition à la télévision mais au travers d'un livre avec des images claires. On sent l' ambiance, le chlore de la piscine. On a le rythme cardiaque qui s'accélère et on tourne les pages avec frénésie pour savoir si la course est gagnée... Un suspense incroyable traduit par le biais de mots bien tournés. Comme si on y était !

Idem pour l'ambiance des salles de presse, l'effervescence des interviews le soir de manifestations. Que les situations soient drôles ou pathétiques, les descriptions des coulisses sont toujours justes...

Pour avoir eu la chance de côtoyer ce milieu, j'ai été particulièrement bluffée par la véracité du décor et la manière dont l'auteur a capté les ambiances.

Une palette d'émotions m'ont été transmises par l'histoire, les personnages et l'ambiance: suspense, complots, euphorie, larmes, joie, fierté, dépassement de soi...

Un très beau roman dont je découvrais le 4ème volet et dont je vais m'empresser de lire les précédents volumes tant j'ai été sous le charme.
A lire pour avoir un avant goût des J.O de Londres.
