THE SELECTION BY KIERA CASS

THE SELECTION SERIES VOL 1

Synopsis
Thirty-five beautiful girls. Thirty-five beautiful rivals…

It’s the chance of a lifetime and 17-year-old America Singer should feel lucky. She has been chosen for The Selection, a reality TV lottery in which the special few compete for gorgeous Prince Maxon’s love.

Swept up in a world of elaborate gowns, glittering jewels and decadent feasts, America is living a new and glamorous life. And the prince takes a special interest in her, much to the outrage of the others.

Rivalry within The Selection is fierce and not all of the girls are prepared to play by the rules. But what they don’t know is that America has a secret – one which could throw the whole competition… and change her life forever.

Summary:
America has been randomly selected and will participate into a game of TV-reality to become the future princess of the kingdom. Entering the game, she did not expect that the competition will be as hard or that she will have feelings for a stranger while her heart was still beating for another ...
Reactions:
When this book came out, the cover caught my eyes, then I became interested in the synopsis. I thought that there was perhaps nothing original in the plot but it would be nice for a summer reading. Then I came across some reviews completely contradictory.

Some of you have been charmed and loved it or drasticaly some had not managed to finish and abandoned this novel before the end...
I found it intriguing. My curiosity was piqued!

So, I am delighted to have persevered and made my own opinion because my reading was fun, fast, and I admit I was quite surprised by the result. I expected a story about the honeyed theme of chasing love based on the reality show "The Bachelor" with a Prince as a reward. But I never expected to enter a dystopsia, or have a love triangle on the bottom of the class struggle.

Personally, I've also seen similarities between America and the character of Katniss in the series
"The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. Indeed, the two young women have a temper, some character and prefers to be seen for what they naturally are.

If America is not as violent as she is not forced to fight, she remains a character who has guts, the desire to change the injustice proposed in her world. People are dying from hunger and a rebelion is raging. Again, the instance of powers of this world have been hiding things to the population to keep them in the dark by controlling the media. Even the prince is in the dark and manipulated...

I think the second part of this story will be quite interesting to follow and perhaps more surprising than expected. In any case, the author set the scene with Aspen determined not to give up, America in search of herself and Maxon on his way to have some difficult decisions to take and learn how to rule.

Enjoy your reading and create your own opinion on this one!
Perfect for this summer...

Sentences

From America: "Two words jumped into my head: what if!"

From Dad: "Listen to me, kitten. Win or lose, you'll always be a princess to me."

From America: "My plan is to enjoy the food until you kick me out."

From America: "If your life is as upside down as you say it is, then she has to be here somewhere. In my experience, true love is usually the most inconvenient kind."

THE SELECTION BY KIERA CASS
THE SELECTION SERIES VOL 1

Traduction du synopsis:
Trente-cinq belles filles. Trente-cinq belles rivales ...

"The Hunger Games" de Suzanne Collins.

  1. I have been torn as to whether I want to read this or not because, like you said, there are so many mixed reviews. Either people love it or absolutely hate it. The cover is really pretty though. Maybe I will pick it up soon and see for myself.
