THE SEASON BY SARAH MACLEAN

Synopsis
Seventeen year old Lady Alexandra is strong-willed and sharp-tongued -- in a house full of older brothers and their friends, she had to learn to hold her own. Not the best makings for an aristocratic lady in Regency London. Yet her mother still dreams of marrying Alex off to someone safe, respectable, and wealthy. But between ball gown fittings, dances, and dinner parties, Alex, along with her two best friends, Ella and Vivi, manages to get herself into what may be her biggest scrape yet.

When the Earl of Blackmoor is mysteriously killed, Alex decides to help his son, the brooding and devilishly handsome Gavin, uncover the truth. But will Alex's heart be stolen in the process? In an adventure brimming with espionage, murder, and other clandestine affairs, who could possibly have time to worry about finding a husband? Romance abounds as this year's season begins!

Summary:
Alex, Vivi and Ella will make their debut in society by participating in their first season in London with the prospect of finding a husband. Yet the three girls refuse the idea of losing their freedom in favor of a man. Alex, who has always lived surrounded by three brothers and his childhood friend Gavin has never been attracted to a man. Her first waltz could make her change her mind ...

Reactions
:
I really enjoyed myself with this story!
I liked all the strong personnality of the females characters with stubborn minds, but also great tenderness and affection in their interactivity with others.
Indeed, the Worthington family is full of interest. Between the parents, full of surprises and showing love who is king of "faux pas" at this period, and the three handsome teasing brothers, it gives a good starting point for a romantic, funny and delightful story.

Ella, Vivi and Alex are also phenomena.
Unlike the female characters often subject to the will of their parents, docile or determined not to have choices in life, these three ladies detonate. Bright, intelligent, funny and attractive, they are more contemporary than usual historical romance heroines.

They have the strength and the sharp tongues similar to those of the Bowman's sisters, Lillian and Daisy, as well as their appetite for risk... Annabelle Peyton's intelligence , the determination of Evangeline Jenner...All the wonderful traits of the characters from the "Wallflower"series written by Lisa Kleypas. Small problem, if this novel is just a "one-shot," I'd have liked to know who was the man who has ravish Vivi's heart! I remain convinced that she always knew who it was...

This novel has also a touch of espionage, treason and dangerous actions...The same one you can find in the "Governess Brides" series written by Christina Dodd.
A beautiful mixture that easily lets eat!
Nice discovery.

Moreover, the attraction between Alex and Gavin is sweetly described. Maybe Alex falls in love a little too easily ...
After the declarations of the three girls vowing not to want men in their lives, I would have expected to see Blackmoor crawl harder to convince Alex. But no matter it's still a cute romance, sweet, chaste and fresh.

Sentences

"One could get lost in those eyes -- they were windows on emotion, glittering with humor, flashing with anger, fiery with passion."

"This was it, her first kiss -- and with such an unexpected person in such an unexpected place at such an unexpected time. But it was perfect... and she never wanted it to end."

From Alex: "You have quite ruined me for all others."

From Alex: "I love the boy you were and the man you have become."

THE SEASON

Impressions
:
Je me suis régalée.
