II found this book on Amazon in the recommendations based on my reading and research. After downloading the first chapter on my Kindle, I was excited. The few lines made ​​me smile and I wanted a good story without complication.
I got it! I was spoiled: a story of losing the head about that I'm quickly become addict to!

I loved the beginning of this funny and enjoyable novel. The flashbacks that reveal the childhood memories, associated with the Marchetti family, are touching and amusing. The author gives us the impression of being a little mouse and follow the adventures of Libby as if we were in the room. I liked the words and emotions comes to me through the pages and captivate me.

I also liked to follow the evolution of the characters over time. Often, the reader gets stuck at the time of the story asking himself: how the characters he has enjoyed will evolve ?
Here we move from Libby's early years, to her teens until the reader discovers the young woman full of dreams and ambitions that she becomes. Through her eyes, we are also seeing the transformations of Tony and Mel.

The fact that the author portrays Libby with a lot of principles, taste for sports and the love of studies, without her entourage making fun of her choices, was also an interesting way of showing strenght and resolution. For once, the heroine does not feel pressure to do "like everyone else," particularly in terms of her sex life. Libby pursues her way quietly and still focus on her desires, her dreams. Indeed, her persistence and perseverance pay in the last chapters of the book.

By cons, if I was seduced by the consideration shown by Tony in wanting to let Libby make her own experiences and become more mature, the repetition of his indecision and the repeated use of "bad timing" quickly annoyed me.

The white knight aspect worked perfectly the first time. The second time I found it frustrating. After, I almost wanted to stop my reading. Tony is truly immature for his age.

Fortunately, I persevered and I was delighted with the outcome. The last part, after Libby's return from Italy, the story becomes, again, charming, funny and romantic. Tony is lucky to have stumbled upon patient, loving and compassioned woman like Libby or it could have ended old boy …

Overall this book is very friendly and the author has the gift to immerse the reader in the heart of the emotions of her characters. So, I spent a good and amusing moment with this book.
Because of it, I decided to continue discovering the work of TJ Dell by reading: "Whispers in the woods."

"Her best friend's brother" a great read for lovers of great stories that could be simple but are complicated... Lol!

Résumé:
Libby et Mel sont amies depuis l'enfance. Quasiment depuis cette même période, Libby a développé une attirance pour le frère de Mel, Tony. Plus âgé qu'elle, Libby pense qu'il l'apprécie seulement en tant qu'amie, même si leur relation semble parfois prendre des tournures moins amicales...

Impressions:
J'ai découvert ce livre sur Amazon dans les recommandations basées sur mes lectures et recherches.
Après avoir téléchargé le premier chapitre sur mon Kindle, j'ai été emballée. Les quelques lignes m'ont fait sourire et j'ai eu envie d'une belle histoire sans complication.
J'ai été gâtée: une histoire prise de tête super bien racontée dont on devient vite acro!

J'ai adoré le début de cette nouvelle, drôle et agréable à lire. Les flashbacks qui permettent de découvrir les souvenirs d'enfance liés à la famille Marchetti sont touchants et amusants. L'auteur nous donne l'impression d'être une petite souris et de suivre les aventures de Libby comme si nous étions dans la pièce. J'ai aimé que les mots et les émotions décrites par l'auteur me parviennent et me captivent.

J'ai apprécié aussi pouvoir suivre l'évolution des personnages au fil du temps. Souvent, le lecteur reste coincé à l'époque du récit en se demandant comment les personnages, qu'il a apprécié, vont évoluer. Là, on passe des jeunes années de Libby, à son adolescence jusqu'à découvrir la jeune femme pleine de rêves et d'ambitions. A travers elle, on assiste aussi aux transformations de Tony et de Mel.

Le fait que l'auteur dépeigne Libby avec des principes, le goût pour le sport et les études sans que son entourage ne se moque de ses choix m'a également intéressé. Pour une fois, l'héroïne ne ressent pas la pression de faire « comme tout le monde », notamment au niveau de sa vie sexuelle. Libby suit sa route paisiblement et reste concentrée sur ses envies, ses rêves. D'ailleurs, son obstination et sa persévérance paient dans les derniers chapitres du livre.

Par contre, si j'ai été séduite par la considération, dont fait preuve Tony, en souhaitant laisser Libby faire ses propres expériences et devenir plus mature, la répétition de son indécision et l'utilisation répétée du « mauvais timing » m'a vite agacé.
Le côté preux chevalier a fonctionné la première fois à merveille. La deuxième fois, j'ai trouvé ça frustrant. Après, j'ai presque eu envie d'arrêter ma lecture tellement je trouvais Tony immature pour son âge.

Heureusement, j'ai persévéré et j'ai été ravie de l'issue. La dernière partie après le retour de Libby d'Italie, l'histoire redevient charmante, drôle et romantique. Tony a de la chance d'être tombé sur une jeune fille patiente et peu rancunière comme Libby sinon il aurait pu finir vieux garçon...

Globalement, ce livre est très sympathique et l'auteur à le don de plonger le lecteur au cœur des émotions ressenties par ses personnages. Du coup, le bon moment que j'ai passé avec ce livre, m'a décidé à continuer la découverte du travail de T.J Dell en lisant: « Whispers in the woods. »

"Her best friend's brother": à lire pour les amoureux de belles histoires qui pourraient être simples mais qui se compliquent...Rires!
