THE TAKER BY ALMA KATSU

Back Cover:
HAVE YOU EVER LOVED SOMEONE SO MUCH THAT YOU'D DO ANYTHING FOR THEM ?
When Dr Luke Findley turns up to his hopital shift in the small town of St Andrews, Maine, he's expecting just another evening of minor injuries and domestic disputes. But instead, Lanor McIlvrae walks into his life – and changes it for ever. For Lanny is a woman with a past...

Lanny McIlvrae is unlike anyone Luke has ever met. Hers is a story of love and betrayal that defies time and transcends mortality – and cannot end until Lanny's demon are finally put to rest. Her two hundred years on this earth have seen her seduced by both decadence and brutality – but through it all she has stayed true to the one true love of her life. Until now.

An unforgettable novel about the power of unrequiered love to elevate and sustain, but also is an immortal love story on an epic scale...

:
Browsing in the Fantasy / SF section of my bookstore, I was immediately attracted by the black cover: simple and elegant of "The Taker". The spine of the book, black also, brought class to this book. Then, the first sentence of the back: "Have you ever loved someone so much that you'd do anything for him?" has me hooked. I expected a love story kind of like "Twilight" surfing on wave of vampire's love. Still, nothing to compare between the world created by Stephanie Meyer and the one of Alma Katsu. Both authors are great writters. But no vampire in this story, only dark magical creatures.
A fantasy novel constructed as a thriller, a police investigation, in which the reader is embedded in the steps that lead to immoratlité. Full of suspense, "The Taker" is tied a bit like the movie "The Others" with Nicole Kidman, where anticipation of the reader causes the atmosphere of anguish. The reader is immersed in the madness of a man willing to defy death and in a love story which has a surprising ability to survive the centuries pass. A novel that keeps you awake at night. Wonderful writting skills. I really enjoyed it.

THE TAKER PAR ALMA KATSU
