SUMMER DESSERTS BY NORA ROBERTS
Synopsis
Could a cordon bleu chef be a junk-food addict? The more Blake Cocharan learned about Summer Lyndon, dessert chef extraordinaire, the more intrigued he became-and the more determined he was to hire her. Blake wanted the Best, and Summer looked extremely good to him. Her superb credentials were icing on the cake.
Summer was accustomed to traveling around the world, creating the perfect ending to perfect meals. But Blake had a unique appeal. Summer found herself responding to the challenge, both professionally...and personally.... For the first time, Summer was planning a meal from start to finish—and creating a perfect ending all her own.
Summary:
Summer is a renowned pastry chef who travels the world to bake her creations. Independent, stubborn, she is used to conduct her life as she sees fit. One day she meets Blake, the owner of a chain of luxury hotels which proposes to hire her to bring a breath of fresh air into his kitchens. Tempted by the business offer or attempted by the arrogant man that seems to read the girl like a book, Summer will see her life turned upside down by agreeing to work for Blake...
Reactions:
Impressive mastery of writing!
Nora Roberts was able to build all of her novel on the attraction between Blake and Summer. It was so well put together that the story, the setting or the events become secondary.
The author manages to lead his reader by the nose ... She manages to capture and keep the attention of her assistance just by describing in a fair, poignant and vivid words the feelings that are born, grow and flourish between the main characters.
From the first pages, the reader falls under the spell, the elegance, the simplicity and the piquancy of Summer. As for Blake, it's his arrogance, his businesslike manners and his romanticism that make him lovable. The characters have the same flaws as everybody and that's why the magic is there.
Even if the reader expects a "happy ending" and scenes of romances, he does not expect the subtlety of words and descriptions. Everything is suggested, left to the reader's imagination.
Nothing to do with some romance novels rather raw and detailed on the sex scenes. There is style and refinement in the writing of Nora Roberts.
Nora Roberts is one of the authors I discovered while living in the United States and with which the magic begins at the first lines.
By cons, is the first time that history matters so little to me... I became the spectator of a book as if I was in a movie. I saw the birth of an attraction full of peppers, an incredibly terrifying attraction ending with a bet on the future.
A simple love story enhanced by the pen of a talented author to bloom into a beautiful fairy tale.
Sentences
"Her mother would have called him séduisant, and accurately so. Summer would have called him dangerous."
"For the first time in her life, Summer knew true hunger, true need."
From Summer : "Romance belongs in books and movies."
From Blake: "At the moment, I don't care whether you're a chef or a plumber or a brain surgeon. At the moment," he repeated, "I only care that you're a woman, and one that I desire very much."
From Summer: "When you cook for yourself, there's no one there to clean up the mess." She wasn't a woman who was easily impressed, he mused, yet she was a woman who could be easily pleased.
From Blake: "Just looking at you makes me want, touching you drives me mad."
From Summer: "Kiss me again," she murmured. "No one's ever made me feel the way you do when you kiss me."
From Summer:"I want you more than I should," she heard herself say. "I have you less than I want."
