DARK HEART FOREVER BY LEE MONROE

Synopsis:
Jane Jonas is nearing her 16th birthday and troubled by unsettling recurring dreams where the same mysterious boy her age comes to her, telling Jane that they are each other's destiny. Her mother is increasingly anxious about Jane's disruptive sleepwalking episodes, but for Jane her dream world and reality are about to collide ...
When she develops a friendship with an enigmatic stranger in town, the blond, uber-cool Evan, it's exciting, it's new, and Jane wants him more than she's ever wanted anybody - until her mystery dream boy gets in the way. Now Jane is caught between two worlds: one familiar, but tinged with romance and excitement; the other dark and dangerous, where angels, werewolves, and an irresistible stranger are trying to seduce her...

Summary:
Jane got strange and disturbing dreams about a boy named Luca. In real life, Jane is educated at home and does not really have friends until she meets Evan, a newcomer in town. Within days, she ends up with a boyfriend and a best friend. But both boys hide important secrets ...
Reactions:
Reading the synopsis on the cover, I wanted to immerse myself in the adventures of Jane. It seemed interesting to witness the collision between her dreams and the reality. I also expect a lot of magic or fantasy but I stayed on my hunger. The novel begins slowly and lack of pace.
The reader feel that something interesting will happen, but the author takes her time, maybe too much, to mount the mayonnaise. The clues are there, the agonizing atmosphere starts and poof ... nothing more.
It was not until the last 100 pages that the serious stuff starts. It's a shame to have waited so long because the universe created by Lee Monroe is interesting.
I let myself be surprised by the outcome. I did not expect the various startling revelations that are told by the author at the end.

The characters are slow on the uptake too. Jane is reserved, a bit of an Hermite... Rather delicate in these conditions to identify yourself with her. The boys themselves are too smooth and the reader waits until the end to really discover them. Ditto for the vampires, werewolves and witches that you discover the Palace. The potential is there to built something great and that's frustrating!

Certainly the author chose to place the scene, bringing an atmosphere before entering the thick of things but I struggled to stay into the story. I remain puzzled about my desire to go and read the second volume. Of course, the end stirs my curiosity but I hope the pace will be more sustained and the characters more dynamic in the next volume. The universe created by Lee Monroe is, however, interesting...
Let's wait « Dark Heart Rising »...

Sentences

From Luca: « I am human, in most ways » he said finally. « Except, I can live forever, if I want to. »

From Luca: "You're the one," Luca said simply. "The one I've had in my dreams for a long time. My missing part."
DARK HEART FOREVER
