Synopsis
EVE has always played by the rules, afraid to take chances. HOLDEN wants to change that. She's certain they've never met before...or have they? Holden seems so familiar, but who is he? What is he?

Yesterday her biggest challenge was trying not to bomb on her SATs. Today, paranormal forces have transformed an ordinary high school dance into a test of fate vs. free will and loving Holden could be Eve's end.

Eve is a girl who doesn't like taking risks. At the school dance, her meeting with Holden, will push her to take the riskiest bet of all ...

Reactions:
A short novella quite confusing. Indeed, the author depicts her story by taking its time to picture a frame as if she ventured on the roads of a real novel.

Suddenly, the reader embarks on a pleasant journey until the meeting with Holden. On the roof scene, the supernatural element comes together with the hint of romance and the result is a little bit messy.

After the two protagonist leave the dance, some confusion and clutter appears in the text as if the author wanted to give all the information before rushing to the end.
A frustrated ending imagined by Patricia Mason as an outcome ...
Too bad because the things were starting to become really interesting.

So, I had the feeling of a story that would have deserved to be continued longer than to find myself in front of an abrut end. Attention, I liked the outcome but I'm surprised by the path taken. The disappointment of having a nice suspense end but to have a disjointed story as a whole.

Yet this novella give me enough hints to want to try a real novel from this author.

EVE a toujours joué selon les règles par peur de prendre des risques. HOLDEN veut changer cela. Elle est certaine qu'ils ne se sont jamais rencontrés avant ... à moins que ? Holden semble si familier, mais qui est-il? Qu' est-il?

Hier, son plus grand défi était d'essayer de ne pas planter ses SAT. Aujourd'hui, les forces paranormales ont transformé un simple bal du lycée en un combat entre la puissance du destin contre le libre arbitre et, aimer Holden pourrait bien être la fin d'Eve.

Résumé:
Eve est une jeune fille qui n'aime pas prendre de risque. Lors du bal de l'école, sa rencontre avec Holden, va la pousser à prendre le pari le plus risqué de tous...

Impressions:
Une courte nouvelle assez déroutante. En effet, l'auteur dépeint son récit en prenant son temps pour placer le cadre comme s'il s'aventurait sur les routes d'un vrai roman.

Du coup, le lecteur s'embarque dans un voyage sympathique jusqu'à la rencontre avec Holden. Là, tout se bouscule. L'aspect surnaturel intervient en même temps que le soupçon de romance.

Mais voilà cela donne un peu de confusion et de fouillis comme si l'auteur voulait donner toutes les informations avant la fin. Puis, on arrive au dénouement imaginé par Patricia Mason avec de la frustration car les choses commençaient vraiment à devenir intéressante.

J'ai vraiment eu le sentiment d'une histoire qui aurait méritée d'être continuée plus longuement plutôt que de me retrouver devant un fin aussi abrupte.

Attention, j'ai bien aimé la fin mais à sa lecture, je me suis étonnée du chemin emprunté. De la déception d'avoir un beau suspense de fin mais d'avoir une histoire décousue dans son ensemble.

M'a pourtant donné envie de lire un vrai roman de la part de cet auteur pour en savoir davantage.
