PRADA & PREJUDICE BY MANDY HUBBARD

Synopsis
Fifteen-year-old Callie buys a pair of real Prada pumps to impress the cool crowd on a school trip to London. Goodbye, Callie the clumsy geek-girl, hello popularity! But before she knows what’s hit her, Callie wobbles, trips, conks her head… and wakes up in the year 1815!
She stumbles about until she meets the kind-hearted Emily, who takes Callie in, mistaking her for a long-lost friend. Sparks soon fly between Callie and Emily’s cousin, Alex, the maddeningly handsome-though totally arrogant-Duke of Harksbury. Too bad he seems to have something sinister up his ruffled sleeve…

From face-planting off velvet piano benches and hiding behind claw-foot couches to streaking through the estate halls wearing nothing but an itchy blanket, Callie’s curiosity about Alex creates all kinds of trouble.

But the grandfather clock is ticking on her 19th Century shenanigans. Can Callie save Emily from a dire engagement, win a kiss from Alex, and prove to herself that she’s more than just a loud-mouth klutz before her time there is up?

Summary:
Callie is an awkward and shy girl who does not dare to rub shoulders with popular girls. She looks at them from afar and dream to be part of their group during her school trip to England. To please them, she decided to acquire a pair of Prada stiletto heel. After leaving the shop, unable to walk with heels, she fell and wakes up in England in 1815.
Collected in error by Emily, a girl doomed to an arranged marriage, Callie is offered hospitality in the duke of Harksbury house. Callie then begins to discover the habits and customs of the Regency era of England and the lack of women's rights at that time. Callie, despite the weight of etiquette, decides to save Emily fom a loveless marriage. She did not count on the presence of the duke ...

Reactions:
A novel quickly read on a cloudy Sunday. The story is quite simple and full of "déjà vu". Nothing fancy, rather a young teen reading full of romance and princess dresses with corset for background.

A mixture of "Kate and Leopold" with Meg Ryan and "The Summerhouse" by Jude Deveraux. In less interested...in my humble opinion.
If reading historical romance is a genre in its entirety, (by the way one that I really appreciate) with real research on costumes, customs and mores of the epoque details, this novel, although it is inspired , I have not been moved or engrossed in it. I would recommend this book to young girls in search of Prince Charming.

Sentences
« Sometimes I feel more alone when I'm surrounded by my classmates than I do when I'm actually by myself.»

From Callie: « I've landed in Regency England: 90210. Just as much drama; a lot less glamour. »
From Akex: "I've never met a girl who ... challenges me as you do. I find I'm seeing things differently."

From Callie: « I've thought about getting close to him for a month. I'm about to get my chance ».

PRADA & PREJUGES
