Synopsis

Summary:
Tessa arrived in England from America in order to join her brother. But no sooner arrived, she is kidnapped by two evil sisters. Prisoner, she is obliged to practice to shift from her appearance to the one of all the people with who the two women brought her an item. One day as she prepares to flee, Will comes to her rescue. Reactions:
Again, I am blown away by the imagination of Cassandra Clare. In the first volume of "The Infernal Devices," the reader find himself at once on familiar ground: the world of the Shadowhunters, of Downworlders and Mondanes but, and this is all the brilliance of the author, also in a new scenery.

Readers jumped in time to be found in the nineteenth-century England. Some characters or secrets that had been raised in "The Mortal Instruments" here can have an initial answers. For the reader if he has followed the adventures of Clary, Jace, Alex, Isabelle and Simon is a pure joy for the world invented is the same while being completely different. A bit outdated, more hierarchical and more intolerant too.
Tessa, Will and Jem are the main characters whose we follow the adventures. One can not help comparing those characters, the plot and the ease with which Cassandra Clare draws the reader in this new series.
I enjoyed Tessa very much. Like Clary, she does not know how to do to defend herself. But she has an authoritarian air and a well-honed language to avoid being pushed around or bullied. In addition, her fearless side and the need to protect the people she cares about, will find her fighting with the means at hand. She is full of resources, intelligence and compassion.
The black, tortured personality of Will, his tendancy to use sarcasm and provocation as weapons to keep away the people he loves and the way he hides a secret, tragic past seemed very close to Jace Lightwood personality. Both have nothing to lose and have suicidal behavior in their struggles until they meet the girl of their dreams.

A lack of originality in the ingredients but the recipe is ultimately a success since the focus is on Will's even when he is rude with Tessa.
However, the relationship between Will and Tessa is different from the one describe operating in "The Mortal Instruments."


For my part, I loved James Carstairs. At first I thought he was suffering from tuberculosis with all the symptoms described and due to the time when the account is located. It is with great pleasure that I discovered the origin of Jem's disease. An explanation worthy of the romantic hero, a true gentleman, full of charm, with a good word always well placed. Jem's humor made ​​me smile many times as well as his philosophy of life at the approach of death. I look forward to its evolution in the next volume.
There are also old friends as Magnus and Camille, although I would have liked to see the Warlock appear more often as I loved his spirit and his interventions in "City of Fallen Angels."Conclusion:
The two series are well written and easily read. Because of the style of Cassandra Clare, the curiosity and interedt of the reader will be capted through a well structured imaginary world.
I'm strongly waiting after the release of "Clockwork Prince"!

Résumé:
Tessa débarque en Angleterre dans le but de rejoindre son frère. Mais à peine arrivée, elle se fait kidnapper par deux sœurs maléfiques. Prisonnière, elle est obligée de s'entraîner à prendre l'apparence de toutes les personnes dont les deux femmes lui apportent un objet. Un jour, alors qu'elle s'apprête à s'enfuir, Will vient à son secours. Il l'emmène trouver refuge à l'institut et lui révèle être un shadowhunter. Tessa apprend aussi que son don est convoité par beaucoup d'autres êtres surnaturels et que son frère pourrait être en danger. Alors pour tenter de le secourir, elle s'allie aux shadowhunters et s'engage sur une route pleine de dangers.

Impressions:
Encore une fois, je suis bluffée par l'imagination de Cassandra Clare. Dans le premier tome de « The infernal devices », on se retrouve à la fois en terrain connu: celui de l'univers des shadowhunters, des Downworlders et des mondanes mais, et c'est là tout le brio de l'auteur, également en plein dépaysement.
Le lecteur fait un bond dans le temps pour se retrouver dans l'Angleterre du XIXe siècle. Certains personnages ou secrets qui avaient été abordés dans « The Mortal Instruments » trouvent ici un début de réponse. Pour le lecteur s'il a suivit les aventures de Clary, Jace, Alex, Isabelle et Simon, c'est un pur bonheur car le monde inventé est le même tout en étant complétement différent. Un brin désuet, plus hiérarchisé et plus intolérant aussi.

Tessa, Will et Jem sont les personnages principaux dont nous suivons les aventures. On ne peut s'empêcher de comparer les caractères, la trame et la facilité avec laquelle Cassandra Clare attire le lecteur dans cette nouvelle série.

Tessa m'a beaucoup plus. Si comme Clary, elle ne sait pas ce défendre, elle a un caractère autoritaire et une langue bien affutée pour ne pas se laisser marcher sur les pieds. De plus, son côté intrépide et son besoin de protéger font qu'elle se retrouve toujours à combattre avec les moyens du bord. Elle est pleine de ressources, d'intelligence et de compassion.

La personnalité noire, torturée de Will, utilisant le sarcasme, la provocation pour maintenir à l'écart les gens qu'il aime pour cacher un passé secret et tragique m'a semblé très proche de Jace Lightwood. Tous les deux n'ont plus rien à perdre et ont un comportement limite suicidaire dans leurs combats jusqu'au jour où il rencontre la fille de leur rêve.
Un manque d'originalité dans les ingrédients utilisés mais la recette est, au final, un succès puisque l'on s'attache à Will même lorsqu'il est grossier avec Tessa.
Pourtant, les relations entre Will et Tessa sont différentes du couple phare évoluant dans « The Mortal Instruments ».

Pour ma part, j'ai adoré James Carstairs. Au début, j'ai cru qu'il souffrait de Tuberculose avec tous les symptômes décrit et due à l'époque où le récit se situe. C'est donc avec beaucoup de plaisir que j'ai découvert au cours de ma lecture l'origine du mal de Jem. Une explication digne de ce héros romantique, véritable gentleman bourré de charme, avec un bon mot toujours bien amené. L'humour de Jem m'a fait sourire à de nombreuses reprises tout comme sa philosophie de vie à l'approche de la mort. J'ai hâte de voir son évolution dans le prochain volume.
On retrouve aussi de vieux amis comme Magnus et Camille, même si j'aurais aimé voir le Warlock apparaître plus souvent tant j'ai aimé son esprit et ses interventions dans « City of Fallen Angels ».
Bilan:
Les deux séries se laissent lire avec intérêt car le style de Cassandra Clare sait capturer la curiosité de son lecteur grâce à un monde imaginaire bien structuré.
Vivement le 1er décembre prochain pour la sortie de « Clockwork Prince »!
