Ken, a young Japanese guy, is in love with a young Korean girl Yumin. He followed her in Korea and wants to become a policeman just like her. But then, he finds himself at the head of a local gang. What will happen to Ken?

Impressive by its realism!
A seinen manga style quite violent and confusing for an informed public, over 15 years old.
The drawings are amazing both in expressions of anger, rage and others feelings of the characters or in incredibly detailed design of clothings. The background settings are wonderfully painted too. Boichi, the mangaka, is a spectacular artist. All the actions and fightings scenes show the movement of blows as if the reader was watching a movie or a video in slow motion and not just reading a manga.
The serious faces and violent situations are often offset by grimaces and antics from the boss. Its a bit as if Son Gokû in "Dragon Ball Z" had crossed paths and mixed himself with "Crying Freeman".
If the graphic is brilliant, the story itself is quite violent.
An adult manga with great fight scenes but also some of creepy rape and prostitution which I am not really crazy about as a woman. Even if, it certainly gives credibility to the story of Mafia gangs which terrorized a neighborhood in Seoul.
A little touch of subtility will have done the trick too!
As for the good guys, the gang of thugs whose leader is Ken fights to save the oppressed. So, it's a bit as if Robin Hood was looking like a Yakuza ... This does not detract from the scenes of excess trash but say that it helps the medicine go down.
Personally, it's really the authenticity, the marvellous designs and the easy going visual flow that brought me to enjoy my reading. The third volume ends with an important revelation which suggests that the love story between Ken and Yumin could herald new complications and bloody battles to come.
For fans of fighting or pretty designs.
SUN-KEN ROCK BY BOICHI
Synopsis trouvé sur www.manga-news.com Kitano Ken, un jeune Japonais, débarque à Séoul avec un seul but : devenir agent de police comme Yumin, la fille qu’il aime. C’est le début pour lui d’une succession de galères... Alors qu’il pleure son désespoir au comptoir d’un resto ambulant, des mafieux viennent s’en prendre au patron. Le sang de Ken ne fait alors qu’un tour et les coups de poings volent !
Ce que Ken ignore, c’est que Tae-soo, le boss d’un gang de quartier, a apprécié sa réaction et ses qualités de combattant. Il compte bien l’enrôler dans sa bande. Bastons, jolies femmes et costards de marque : pour Ken, c’est le début d’une nouvelle vie mouvementée... et pleine d’humour !
Impressions:
Impressionnant de réalisme!
Un manga de type seinen pour un public averti, de plus de 15 ans, assez violent et déroutant.
Les dessins sont incroyables aussi bien dans les expressions de colère, de rage des personnages que dans les drapés des vêtements ou les détails du background.
Boichi, le mangaka, est un artiste spectaculaire.
Toutes les scènes d'actions et de combats montrent les mouvements des coups comme si l'on regardait un film ou une vidéo au ralenti et non un simple manga. Les expressions sérieuses et situations violentes sont souvent contrebalancées par des grimaces et des pitreries du boss. Un peu comme si Son Gokû dans "Dragon Ball Z" avait croisé la route de "Crying Freemn".
Après, cela donne certainement une crédibilité à l'histoire de mafia qui terrorise un quartier de Séoul.
Quant aux gentils, un gang de brutes, dont Ken devient le leader, ils se battent pour sauver les opprimés. Du coup, c'est un peu comme si Robin des bois avait des allures de Yakuza...
Cela n'enlève rien à l'excès de scènes trash mais disons que ça aide à faire passer la pilule.
Personnellement, c'est vraiment le côté juste et authentique des dessins, de la fluidité visuelle qui m'a amené à apprécier ma lecture.
Le 3e tome se termine avec une révélation importante qui laisse présager que l'histoire d'amour entre Ken et Yumin pourrait annoncer des complications et de nouveaux combats sanglants à venir.
A lire pour les amateurs de combats ou de jolis dessins.
