TEMPTATION & TWILIGHT BY CHARLOTTE FEATHERSTONE

THE BRETHREN GUARDIANS
VOLUME 3

Synopsis
Iain Sinclair, Marquis of Alynwick, is certain there is a special hell for him. An unrepentant rake, he holds nothing sacred—except for beautiful Elizabeth York. For years, Alynwick has tried to forget the woman he loved so well, and treated so badly. A woman who could hold nothing in her heart for him but hatred.

All of society believes Elizabeth, the blind daughter of a duke, to be a proper young lady. But no one knows of her wanton affair with Alynwick. When Lizzy learns of her ancestor’s ancient diary—filled with exotic tales—she longs to uncover the identity of the unnamed lover within and hesitantly agrees to allow Alynwick, who claims to have knowledge of the “veiled lady,” to help her solve the mystery.

Eager to be Lizzy’s eyes, Alynwick brings the seductive text to life, and each night it takes greater effort for her to remember his betrayal. With each whispered word, her resolve gives way, without her knowing that a centuries-old secret will lead them to a present-day danger.

Summary:
Elizabeth York was seduced and then abandoned without explanation by the Marquis of Alynwick when she was a young debutante. Deeply wounded, as the years has passed, she has healed herself.

Now, the young woman has matured and also became blind. When the Marquis wants to return in her life, her inability to decipher his face in order to identify potential lies, wears her down. Will she forgive and be able to give a new chance to womanizer the most famous of London?

Reactions:
I had not read the first two opus of this trilogy that combine romance and Templars's legend.
However, the author quickly put me soon up to date on what happened in the previous volumes, so I have not been penalized.

I found the idea of incorporating the Templars rather interesting. It has come to spice the story and bring rhythm to the plot. I also had fun in the company of different characters. Villains who will stop at nothing even murder. The great guardians who proudly protect their secrets even when they are tracked down.

Obviously, a torrid romance takes place among the dangerous plots. The two heroes, namely Iain Sinclair and Elizabeth York, have a quite heavy common past. So they take the reader on a rich present of contradictory feelings. Between injuries, suffering and passionate love, they make you want to turn the pages faster and faster to know what will happen to their tumultuous adventures.

I appreciated that Elizabeth is not an innocent. This gave her the opportunity to have more depth of personality. The fact that she lost her sight and is blind also brings an extra dimension to the story. The author can then play with the other senses of the heroin and tenfold her sensuality.

With a strong character, some temper and some difficulties to forgive, Lizzie is allowed to turn down Iain's sensual proposals to prolong the love suspense and give some troubles to the Marquis.
I liked the tortured soul of this man who dirty himself for a good cause and who is desperate to win back his lady love.

A beautiful romance to devour.

Sentences

From Iain: « But his angel had teeth – and claws – that had effectively eviscerated him tonight. »

From Iain: «  You're not a toy, Beth. You're the best gift I've ever been given, and I didn't take care of you like I should have. But I will. You'll see. You'll come back to me and I will unwrap you with such a care that you will never break again. »

From Iain: « You are temptation in the twilight and I can no longer resist you. »

From the Veiled Lady: « A lover in my dreams. Yet I cannot help but think he is the other half of my soul. Even in my dream I knew him to be the one. The only person in the world who could complete me. »

TEMPTATION & TWILIGHT BY CHARLOTTE FEATHERSTONE
THE BRETHREN GUARDIANS
VOLUME 3
